Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians

Background

 

To promote the standardization of skill levels within the electrical industry, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) will require all industry professionals involved in CEM’s power supply operations to complete the “Skills Certification Program”. This initiative aims to ensure that engineers possess the necessary knowledge and skills, thereby enhancing the safety and reliability of electricity supply. 

Electrical technicians can obtain certification through the designated methods and apply to become “CEM Registered Electrical Technician” or renew their registration as necessary.

Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians

CEM

A comprehensive evaluation consisting of "knowledge" and "skills" assessments. Qualified individuals will receive a certificate from CEMA minimum of 5 years of work experience related to electrical engineering

Certification Course for Electrical Technicians

Macau Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM

The course consists of theoretical trainings and practical workshops to complete a combined assessment of two parts: "Knowledge" and "Skills". Successful participants will receive a certificate jointly issued by Macau Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM

A minimum of 3 years of work experience related to electrical engineering 

CEM is going to organize the “Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians” again in June 2025. Industry professionals are welcome to join the skills assessment, please refer to the details below.

ObjectiveTo enhance the professional knowledge and skills level of electrical technicians, promoting the standardization of competency benchmarks in the power industry
Assessment MethodThe assessment consists of two parts: "Knowledge" and "Skills," providing a comprehensive evaluation of occupational safety and skills application. Participants who pass the written exam will be arranged for a skills assessment. Participants who pass the assessment will receive a certificate from CEM
Assessment Content:

Knowledge (written exam, 1.5 hours)

  • Knowledge of basic electricity, theory of low-voltage power supply, uninterruptible power supply and knowledge of occupational safety and health

Skills (actual operation, 3 hours)

  • Practical skills in cables, protective devices/conductors and circuit arrangements, low-voltage equipment installation and testing, application of meter and occupational safety practices
Schedule
  • Briefing sessions: 26 June and 3 July 2025
  • Knowledge-based exams: 10 July and 17 July 2025
  • Skills-based exams for 2025: Every Friday from 3 October to 26 December 2025

Terms and Conditions
  1. “Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians” will be conducted in Cantonese with Chinese materials
  2. Applicants must provide a local mobile phone number for communication
  3. The application form must include a brief job description. If applications exceed the limit, selection will be based on job nature. Confirmed registrations cannot be changed or transferred
  4. Priority is given to electrical technicians employed by "CEM Registered Electrical Contractors"
  5. Participants must attend the briefing session and present ID for identity verification
  6. Participants must achieve a passing score in the written examination to be eligible for the skills assessment
