CEM’s First ESG Report Wins Commendation Award for Best ESG Report (Public/NGO) at Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards

Macao, 26 October 2026

Committed to integrating sustainability into its corporate governance and daily operations, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) actively addresses environmental, climate, and social issues while ensuring a safe, reliable, and high-quality power supply for Macao. CEM’s first standalone ESG Report was recently awarded the “Commendation Award for Best ESG Report (Public/NGO)” at the 9th Hong Kong ESG Reporting Awards (HERA). This recognition underscores CEM’s outstanding efforts in refining its ESG governance structure, implementing sustainability strategies, driving performance and advancing transparency in information disclosure.

As a representative non-profit initiative platform in Hong Kong and the region, HERA aims to recognize organizations demonstrating excellence in ESG information disclosure. It is also the world's first ESG awards program to receive special nominations for United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s ISAR Honours, gaining wide international authority and credibility.

The award ceremony took place recently in Hong Kong, where Edmond Etchri Sassouvi, Advisor to the Executive Committee of CEM, represented the company to receive the honor. CEM established the ESG management framework in 2025 and released its first standalone ESG Report in 2026, covering its comprehensive ESG performance for 2025. This milestone lays a solid foundation for enhancing transparency, consistency, and comparability in future ESG disclosures. The report structures around five core ESG pillars—climate resilience, circular value chains, smart and resilient infrastructure, talent development and inclusive growth, and partnerships and integrity—ensuring CEM’s ESG direction remains rooted in its operational reality while aligning with international sustainability agendas.

In the past year, CEM actively advanced various ESG initiatives, embedding sustainable development deeply into its daily operations and long-term strategy. Key highlights include investing MOP586 million in network upgrades across Macao and procuring 2.25 million kWh of Green Electricity Certificates (GECs). CEM also maintained continuous investment in employee training, occupational health and safety, community engagement and energy education, collaborating with diverse sectors to build a sustainable community.

As a key player in Macao’s energy and community operations, CEM will continue to enhance its ESG governance framework and related policies to enhance management consistency and foresight. Moving forward, CEM will actively support the national "dual carbon" goals and align with the strategic arrangements of the Macao SAR Government’s 3rd Five-Year Plan, and promote the application of clean energy and the green transformation of the power grid; deepen community inclusion and stakeholder communication to jointly advance urban renewal efforts; adhere to uphold high standards of corporate governance and maintain transparent information disclosures, and joining hands with all sectors of society to build a "Beautiful and Smart Macao."
