On 13 September, the Companhia de Electricidade de Macau, CEM – S.A. (CEM) hosted an immersive two-session workshop called ‘Farm to Table’, bringing together 24 family groups, each comprising an adult and child duo, for an inspiring exploration of local food origins, seasonality, sustainability, and community-supported agriculture.

This innovative workshop was designed not only to deepen the connection between families and their food sources but also to encourage the local community to embrace healthier, eco-friendly lifestyles. Participants gained valuable insights into locally sourced products, learned the best seasons for fresh consumption, and discovered how to engage in home gardening and support small-scale local farmers in growing their businesses.

The day began with an exciting ride on CEM’s E-bus, transporting participants to the lush Urban Farm in Coloane. Here, families experienced hands-on learning—digging into the earth, planting vegetables, and harvesting fresh produce to later transform into delicious meals. This unique opportunity allowed both adults and children to witness firsthand the journey their food takes from soil to table.

Following this immersive farm experience, everyone moved to a nearby kitchen workshop, where under the guidance of a professional chef, they cooked two iconic regional dishes: Miso Soup with Bok Choy and Sweet Corn and Indian Lettuce Stir-fry with Sesame Noodles—both featuring the freshly harvested ingredients from the farm and other local products.

One enthusiastic participant shared, “I absolutely loved this fantastic experience! I had never had the chance to plant vegetables or see how the soil is prepared. Cooking the vegetables we harvested ourselves was truly unforgettable—a unique experience I will cherish.”

By blending education, community engagement, and culinary delight, CEM’s ‘Farm to Table’ workshop offered a memorable and empowering experience that inspires families to reconnect with their food and the environment.
