CEM Partners with Associations to Promote Energy Saving and Electrical Safety
Macao, 14 September 2026
To promote energy saving, carbon reduction and household electrical safety, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) recently partnered with the Macau Institution of People’s Alliance (API); the Government Apartment for Senior Citizens; Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM); the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM); the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District (AICZNM); the Property Management Business Association of Macau (PMBA) and the General Union of Neighbor Association of Macao (UGAMM) to hold six “Energy Saving and Safety” seminars, attracting a total of over 550 participants.
Since 2009, CEM and the Environmental Protection Bureau have jointly organized the "Macao Energy Saving Activity," continuously promoting community-wide energy saving and low-carbon living. The initiative aligns with the concept of "public participation in low-carbon lifestyles" under the Macao Long-Term Decarbonization Strategy, actively responds to the national 15th Five-Year Plan and the "Dual Carbon" goals, and fully supports the overall deployment of the Macao SAR's 3rd Five-Year Plan. During the activity, CEM visited various community associations to host seminars, encouraging citizens to take practical actions to save energy and reduce carbon emissions, while promoting practical information such as customer service, household electrical safety, and the maintenance of buildings’ communal electrical installations.
The attending representatives were Yuan Han Jun, Vice Director of API; Lei Cheng I and Leong Meng Ian, Vice Directors of FAOM; Ada Chan, Supervisory Board Vice Chairman of AGMM; Raymond Wong, President of AICZNM; Sit Un Na, Director of PMBA; Chon Chong, Building Management Resource Centre Supervisory of UGAMM. CEM representatives include Cecilia Nip and Jaclyn Iun, Director and Senior Manager of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office; Gabriel Chan, Technical Services Management Senior Manager and Maggie Lei, Customer Contact Management Senior Manager of CEM Customer Services Department.
During the seminars, CEM representatives emphasized that while CEM continuously optimizes the power grid to ensure a stable power supply, residents must also prioritize household electrical safety to prevent fires caused by negligence, which can lead to casualties and property losses. Furthermore, building owners were urged to take the regular maintenance and repair of communal electrical installations seriously, and were recommended to hire qualified electrical contractors for inspections and follow-up work to ensure electrical safety.
To enhance user experience and environmental awareness, CEM representatives detailed various convenient customer services, the CEM APP and online service platforms, with a special introduction to the newly launched "Green Point" customer reward program. By using the CEM APP to record low-carbon behaviors, customers can earn points to redeem electronic vouchers or gifts, encouraging the public to lower their carbon footprint through a quantifiable mechanism. The presentation also introduced WeChat official account binding, power outage notification services, diverse payment methods, and the environmental benefits of electronic bills, encouraging customers to adopt paperless services and jointly practice sustainable development principles.
The safety hazards in the old electrical installations of the aging buildings in Macao cannot be overlooked. CEM engineers pointed out that common issues such as aging installations, water seepage, oxidation, overheating and poor contact can easily cause fires if not addressed promptly. Therefore, owners should properly maintain communal electrical installations on a regular basis. Engineers also shared practical household electrical safety knowledge and energy-saving tips with attendees, further strengthening public safety awareness and environmental concepts.
Prizes for the "Macao Energy Saving Activity - 5% Energy Saving Action" lucky draw have been upgraded this year, with the Gold Prize winner receiving MOP20,000 in energy-saving appliance coupon. During the billing month of July to October 2026, all residential customers who reduce their electricity consumption by 5% or more compared with the same period last year will enter the lucky draw upon registration. CEM representatives assisted attendees with on-site registration after the seminars. Interested residential customers can visit CEM website at www.cem-macau.com to view the regulations and register. The registration deadline is 30 September, 2026. Customers can call 8393 1205 during office hours for details.
