CEM hosts “One Day CEM Engineer Experience” to cultivate local engineering talent

Macao, 10 August 2026

To spark local youth interest in power engineering and promote STEM education, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) recently held its "One Day CEM Engineer Experience" initiative. The event drew over 200 applicants, with 30 students selected via drawing to experience the daily responsibilities and mission of a CEM engineer firsthand.

To offer students a comprehensive overview of CEM’s business and the power industry within a structured timeframe, CEM meticulously designed the itinerary. CEM brought in senior engineers from four key departments—Customer Services, Generation, Transmission & Distribution, and Human Resources & Sustainability—to serve as mentors. The engaging program covered core topics including power system architecture, occupational safety standards, smart meter applications, substation intelligent inspection systems, and power generation processes. Blending theory with practice, CEM arranged hands-on workshops and other practice such as operating smart inspection robot dogs and tried on safety protection equipment, helping them apply what they learned, deepen their understanding of power engineering, and discover the diversity of engineering careers. Addressing students' questions about academic paths and career choices, seniors engineers personal experiences and growth journeys, offering advice on industry entry requirements and career prospects.

During the field visit segment, CEM guided students to key facilities, including the CEM Training Center, Meter Testing Laboratory, Pac On 220kV Substation, and Coloane Power Station. Through close contact with real-life operational environments, students moved beyond textbooks and gain a vivid understanding of power generation and the diverse functions across CEM's departments, deepening their appreciation for the expertise and responsibility required to maintain a stable power supply.

At the graduation ceremony, CEM presented certificates of completion to all students.Based on students' hands-on performance, teamwork and engagement during the workshop, the mentor team selected three outstanding students to receive a MOP 1,000 scholarship as encouragement. Students noted that the experience changed their perception of the power industry, broadened their horizons and strengthened their determination to pursue future careers in technology and engineering.

Young talent is the cornerstone of societal innovation and sustainable development. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, CEM was delighted to see local youth demonstrate such strong passion for power engineering and cutting-edge technology. Moving forward, CEM will continue to fulfil its corporate social responsibility by deepening partnerships with local schools and youth organizations, organizing more diverse science outreach and practical initiatives to cultivate the next generation of power engineering professionals, together advancing the power industry to build a safer, greener, and smarter Macao.
