CEM Hosts the 13th Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Power Industry Summit Focusing on “Artificial Intelligence and High-Quality Energy Development”
Macao, 16 June 2026
The 13th Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Power Industry Summit was held on 16 June at Galaxy International Convention Center in Macao. The summit is hosted on a rotating basis by Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. (CEM), China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG), CLP Holdings Limited (CLP), and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), making it the most influential annual gathering in the power industry across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Since the summit was first held in Macao in 2011, this marks the third time Macao has hosted the event. Nearly 100 senior executives gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on the theme “Artificial Intelligence and High-Quality Energy Development,” contributing wisdom and insights to advance energy transformation and smart development in the Greater Bay Area.
The officiating guests at the opening ceremony included Hoi Chi Leong, Deputy Director of Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Fu Jianguo, Chairman of Board of Directors of CEM; Qian Chaoyang, Chairman of CSG; Chiang Tung Keung, Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings; Pang Songtao, President of CGN; Yonghua Song, Rector of the University of Macau; Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee and Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee. This year’s summit procured Green Electricity Certificates (GECs) under the Guangdong-Macao cross-border GEC “dual agency” model, with 100% clean green electricity used throughout the event, demonstrating the shared commitment of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao power enterprises to the “dual carbon” goals and their practical pledge to advance low-carbon transition.
In his opening remarks, Fu Jianguo stated that from initial traditional power cooperation to low-carbon green transformation, and now to the integrated development of artificial intelligence and energy, the summit has consistently dedicated itself to jointly exploring frontier topics in the power industry. 2026 marks the launch of the 15th Five-Year Plan, with “energy powerhouse” written into a national five-year plan for the first time, charting a new blueprint for the high-quality development of China’s energy sector. As a power utility company deeply rooted in Macao, CEM will fully leverage the important supporting role of power enterprises in economic development, using smart energy to help Macao play a greater role in Greater Bay Area construction.
The summit featured four keynote speakers who delivered thematic presentations to inspire thought and exchange among attendees. CEM’s special guest speaker, Professor Song Yonghua, Rector of the University of Macau, spoke on “The Co-evolution of Artificial Intelligence and Power Systems: Challenges, Pathways and Practice,” systematically elaborating on the evolutionary pathway through which AI empowers power systems from perception and analysis, to assisted decision-making, and ultimately to autonomous decision-making. Dr. Huang Ying, Chief Technology Officer of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, delivered a presentation on “The Evolution of AI: From Tool to Strategic Partner,” providing in-depth analysis of AI technology’s current status and development trends in industrial applications. Professor Chung Chi Yung of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University presented on “AI Empowering New Power Systems: Key Technologies, Real-World Challenges and Future Prospects,” systematically reviewing the technological application prospects and practical challenges of artificial intelligence across key scenarios in power systems. Dr. Zhou Jie, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of International Forum for Clean Energy (Macao), focused on “Strategic Implications of the AI Race for China’s Energy and Power Development,” exploring the global AI strategic competition landscape and its opportunities for China’s energy and power industry.
The following day, attendees will visit the Hengqin Digital Zero-Carbon Island Shared Laboratory. Led by CSG and jointly built with CEM, the University of Macau, and other Hong Kong and Macao enterprises, universities, and research institutions, this laboratory represents the nation’s first shared energy and power research laboratory for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Attendees will learn about the development, training process and application outcomes of CEM’s intelligent voice robot, which is Macao’s first AI-powered customer service system incorporating large language model technology, providing a valuable practical reference for enterprises pursuing digital transformation and AI technology application.
Looking ahead, the four power companies will continue to deepen cooperation, strengthen technological innovation and experience sharing in artificial intelligence, smart grids, clean energy, and other fields, working together to promote high-quality energy development in the Greater Bay Area and provide strong energy security for building a world-class urban cluster.
Other senior representatives attending the summit included Chen Weijun, Member of Board of Directors of CEM; Zhang Jian, Executive Director of CEM Executive Committee; Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor of CEM Executive Committee; Li Rui, Vice President of CSG; Lo Ka-chun, President of CLP Power; Li Yilun and Cai Zhen, Vice Presidents of CGN, etc.
