Nanjing, 27 April 2026
Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) conducted an in-depth study tour and cooperative exchange in Nanjing, led by Bernie Leong, Chairman of the CEM Executive Committee. From 23 to 24 April, the CEM delegation visited the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute (NARI Group), where they were warmly received by Zheng Zongqiang, Chairman of NARI Group. Both parties had in-depth discussions on smart grids, digital transformation, and energy sustainability, among others.
On the morning of 24 April, the two parties held a meeting at the NARI Group Conference Centre. In his address, Bernie Leong emphasized that technological innovation and high-quality delivery are the cornerstones of CEM’s approach to every project, and a driving force behind the company’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of power supply services and meeting the expectations of the Macau SAR Government and the public. Discussions covered six main areas — SCADA system upgrade, smart grid development, distribution network automation, distributed solar and storage applications, substation renovation, and industrial control system cybersecurity. CEM engaged in in-depth exchanges with NARI regarding the advancement goals in each of these areas.
During the visit, the CEM delegation conducted in-depth tours of multiple divisions within the NARI Group. The delegation first visited the exhibition halls of the distribution, substation, grid, and utility companies, receiving briefings on each company’s business scope, emerging technologies, and application scenarios. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions on the application outcomes regarding renovations of aging substation equipment, intelligent inspection systems, substation equipment health management, integrated automation and relay protection, as well as ADMS, DERMS, smart distribution rooms, and low-to-medium voltage flexible interconnection, etc. The delegation also visited the Group’s technology exchange hall and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exhibition hall, gaining a comprehensive understanding of its overall technology development layout and various application outcomes in the ICT domain, with discussions covering cutting-edge research in areas such as power grid digital technology, network and information security, power IoT, and artificial intelligence. Going forward, CEM will actively draw on NARI’s advanced technologies and extensive expertise to jointly drive the digital, intelligent, and green development of Macau’s power system, providing a stronger energy foundation for the city’s prosperity, stability, and the “dual carbon” goals.
