CEM brings secondary students to visit clean and low carbon energy facilities in Hong Kong in preparation for the 4th edition of the ‘Clean Energy City Challenge’
Macau, 18 December 2025
Following the tremendous success of organizing the "Clean Energy City Challenge" for three consecutive years, co-organized by the Macau Science Centre and with the technical support from the Macau Science & Technology Promotion Association, CEM will once again hold the event, aimed at nurturing students’ interest in environmental protection and sustainable development of the city, focusing on the use of clean energies and sustainable infrastructures.
A record of 56 teams from 21 secondary schools enrolled for the Challenge comprising two groups, one group of F1-F3 students participating in the ‘Environment & Energy Conservation’ category to develop ideas to use energy in a more efficient and environmentally-friendly way, another group of F4-F6 students participating in the ‘Clean Energies & Smart Technology’ category to propose ideas to design smart products, services or installations that integrate clean energy infrastructures in Macau or in the Greater Bay Area. A professional judging panel have selected the top 10 entries from each category to enter the final round to build their models to compete for the awards.
To allow the students to get better prepared and gain more ideas, CEM took 50 secondary students and teachers to visit two facilities in Hong Kong related to clean and low-carbon energy, namely the WEEE·PARK and the CityU's CLP Power Low Carbon Energy Education Centre. The students greatly enjoyed the initiative to learn firsthand about successful projects related to clean and low-carbon energy. They also stated that they gained many insights for building their own models and are very excited to be able to show their projects to the public. The 20 projects entering the final round, representing 17 schools, will be exhibited at Macau Science Center from 25 to 31 January 2026 to compete for the awards. Public can visit the exhibition and vote for their favorite projects.
