Macau, 12 December 2025

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) conducted a cooperative exchange in Shanghai, led by Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee. On the afternoon of 11 December, the CEM delegation visited the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company (SMEPC), where they were warmly received by Chen Haibo, General Manager of SMEPC. Both parties exchanged views on promoting cooperation in the electricity sector between the two cities.

During the exchange, Bernie Leong stated that CEM has been actively promoting digital and intelligent transformation and sustainable energy development in recent years. SMEPC is at the forefront nationally in areas such as green transportation, smart grids, sustainable development, and talent cultivation. He expressed hope that mutual visits and exchanges would contribute to the high-quality development of CEM.

Chen Haibo introduced SMEPC’s overall development to the CEM delegation and conducted in-depth discussions on topics of interest to CEM, including the “Thousand Charging Stations Going Green” initiative, green electricity trading, and sustainable development systems.

During the visit, the CEM delegation conducted field inspections of SMEPC’s achievements in digital customer service applications and green charging facilities. The delegation included directors and relevant management teams from the Transmission and Distribution Department, Customer Services Department, Human Resources and Sustainability Department, among others. SMEPC was represented by heads of departments including Marketing, Development, Distribution Network, and Organization.

Previously, CEM also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shanghai University of Electric Power to expand resources for cultivating electricity professionals in Macau. Summarizing CEM’s recent exchange activities in Shanghai, Bernie Leong considered them highly beneficial and fruitful. He pointed out that thanks to the trust of the Macau SAR Government and all sectors of society, CEM successfully completed the renewal of its concession contract this year, which means CEM will shoulder greater responsibilities and missions to do its utmost for Macau’s safe and stable electricity supply and sustainable development. As a top-tier city, Shanghai has significant advantages in high-end talent cultivation, new power grid construction, and green electricity and energy development. Through this exchange, CEM will actively learn from Shanghai’s experience, further deepen practical cooperation in the electricity industry between Macau and Shanghai, jointly explore green, intelligent, and sustainable energy development paths, and provide more solid energy security for Macau’s social prosperity, stability, and low-carbon future.
