CEM Continues to Deepen the “Youth Science and Technology Village” Cooperation with Systematic Curriculum to Nurture Electrical Engineering Talent

Macau, 10 November 2025

The “Youth Science and Technology Village” science and technology talent training program, co-organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao Science Center and Galaxy Entertainment Group, continues into its third year. As one of the program’s first strategic partners, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. (CEM) has continuously provided a series of study tours and visits for 130 participants since the program’s launch, inspiring interest and enthusiasm for knowledge and technology in the field of electrical engineering, promoting industry-academia collaboration, and cultivating more young science and technology talent for Macau.

Integrating Theory and Practice in the Curriculum

In this year’s program, CEM deployed professional engineers from five departments – Customer Services Department, Generation Department, Human Resources and Sustainability Development Department, Power and Networks Dispatch Department, and Transmission and Distribution Department – to serve as instructors, designing and conducting systematic professional technical introductions and study activities for participants at different levels. The curriculum covers multiple areas of electricity services, including power system architecture, power generation processes and operating principles, grid dispatching technology, smart meter applications, real-time monitoring systems for power supply networks, and occupational safety regulations. The courses combine theoretical learning with practical operations to deepen participants’ understanding of modern power system operations.

On-site Visits to Training Facilities

Instructors used real-world case studies to explain the design principles and application scenarios of various technologies and organized on-site visits for participants to the CEM Training Center, where they had close contact with actual electrical equipment and gained in-depth understanding of the coordinated operations of various stages in the power generation process, as well as the practical applications of smart grid control systems. Through on-site visits, instructor explanations and interactive experiences, participants learned about the operation and monitoring techniques of advanced electrical equipment and understood the correct use of safety equipment. Throughout the study activities, instructors emphasized to participants the importance of occupational safety and its stringent requirements. Participants actively engaged, demonstrating enthusiasm for learning and professional commitment to electricity-related technologies.

Tiered Training Tailored to Individual Needs

In 2024, a total of 65 people enrolled in CEM’s Level 1 “Introduction to Electrical Engineering”. The 2025 program is divided into three levels running throughout the year, providing targeted training for participants at different stages. Level 1 “Introduction to Electrical Engineering” has 93 enrolled participants, providing an initial understanding of the electricity industry; Level 2 “Electrical Engineering Training” has 20 enrolled participants, deepening professional technical knowledge; and Level 3 “Electrical Engineering Training” has 17 enrolled participants, further enhancing technical competencies. The curriculum also includes special lectures introducing Macau’s electrical technology development, innovative applications and industry prospects, encouraging participants to maintain curiosity and thirst for knowledge in science, dare to explore, and be courageous in innovation.

Moving forward, CEM will continue to advance talent development efforts by increasing young people’s interest in the electricity industry through diversified technical exchanges and training projects, and by conducting various industry-academia-research projects with higher education institutions, introducing more advanced technologies and equipment, striving for innovation while enhancing personnel’s professional skills, jointly promoting the progress of the electricity industry and contributing to Macau’s sustainable development.
