The “2023/2024 Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Awards” ceremony organized by Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM), was held today at the Macau Tower to recognize contractors and suppliers for their outstanding performance in health, safety, and environmental protection. Officiating guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Chan Chon U, Deputy-Director from the Labour Affairs Bureau; Mr. Samio Lou, Head of Department and Management of the Energy Sector Department of Environmental Protection Bureau; Mr. Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee; Mr. Kou Chon Hong, President of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association; Mr. Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee. The judging panel for this award comprised Mr. Sou Kuok Fai, Senior Technician of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau; Mr. Chao Chon Wang, Senior Technician of Development and Management of the Energy Sector Department of Environmental Protection Bureau; Mr. Kou Chon Hong, President of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association.
Bernie Leong expressed that occupational health, safety and environmental protection are crucial for the long-term development of both enterprises and employees in his speech. CEM has consistently integrated this philosophy into its operations, organized regular training courses, encouraging employees to submit improvement suggestions , and striving to adopt the best available sustainable technologies and adhere to achieve highest international standards in executing all business processes. By establishing the CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards, CEM aims to encourage and guide contractors and suppliers to pursue excellence, continuously enhance occupational safety practices, optimize working environments, and collectively improve quality levels.
At the ceremony, representatives from Cheong Kong Construction Co. Ltd. Mr. Alan Pau shared their experiences and measures for achieving environmental excellence performance in power transmission and distribution network construction, maintenance, and repair projects. For instance, they recycle asphalt waste generated during construction to fill low-lying areas prone to water accumulation, effectively reducing mosquito breeding while practicing resource recycling.
CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards was established in 2008 and have recognized 73 recipients. Following professional evaluation, 8 enterprises received honors in this year's program.
