CEM and associations co-organize seminars to promote energy saving and urge citizens to pay attention to energy safety

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) held the “Energy Saving and Safety Seminars” earlier in collaboration with the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM); Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM); the Industry and Commerce Association of Macau Northern District (AICZNM); the Macau Institution of People’s Alliance (API) and the General Union of Neighbor Association of Macao (UGAMM). The five seminars attracted over 330 participants. Since 2009, CEM has jointly organized the “Macau Energy Saving Activity” with the Environmental Protection Bureau to promote the concepts of environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainable development across various sectors of the community, aiming to build a low-carbon and beautiful home. During the activity, the “Energy Saving and Safety Seminars” were held to raise public awareness about energy saving and encourage the practice of a low-carbon lifestyle. The attending representatives were Ada Chan, Supervisory Board Vice Chairman of AGMM; Leong Meng Ian, Vice Director of FAOM; Raymond Wong, President of AICZNM and Ma Kin Cheong, Director of AICZNM; Yuan Han Jun and Chan Ian Ian, Vice Directors of API and Chau Un Ian, Social Services Office Coordinator of UGAMM. CEM representatives include Cecilia Nip and Jaclyn Iun, Director and Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office; Joyce Lao, Customer Contact Management Senior Manager and Gabriel Chan, Technical Services Management Senior Manager of Customer Services Department.

At the seminars, CEM representatives stated that electrical appliances are essential in daily life, but improper use can pose potential safety hazards and even lead to fire incidents. They specifically reminded the public to exercise extra caution when charging devices such as mobile phones and power banks. Furthermore, CEM urged buildings’ owners to acknowledge the importance of regular maintenance and repair of building’s communal electrical installations. They recommended hiring experienced electrical contractors for routine maintenance to identify and promptly address potential hazards, thereby ensuring electrical safety.

During the seminar, CEM representatives introduced several upgraded features of the CEM APP and CEM eService. Customers can now personalize their homepage interface in the CEM APP, allowing for a comprehensive view of their bills and daily electricity consumption. With the newly added smart "Scan" feature in the navigation bar, customers can easily check their bills and charge their electric vehicles, significantly streamlining inquiries and payments. Additionally, customers can bind their accounts to receive updates on power supply status through CEM WeChat. CEM also encourages customers to opt for electronic bills via email, SMS, WeChat, or CEM APP, helping to reduce paper usage and promote sustainable development.

CEM engineers highlighted that as buildings age, many communal electrical installations gradually deteriorate, resulting in safety hazards. They urged building owners to conduct regular maintenance and repairs on these installations to ensure electrical safety. To raise public awareness about electrical safety and energy conservation, CEM provided recommendations for the safe use of electrical appliances and tips for household energy efficiency. Additionally, the engineers stated that CEM has installed smart meters for all customers across Macau, enabling them to monitor their electricity usage in real time. By understanding their consumption patterns, customers can adjust their habits to effectively practice energy saving.

After the seminar, CEM representatives assisted attendees in registering for the "5% Energy Saving Action Lucky Draw". From July until October 2025, residential customers who reduce their consumption by 5% or more compared with the same period last year, can enter the lucky draw upon registration. A total of MOP100,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs. Residential customers can visit the CEM website at www.cem-macau.com to learn about the rules and enroll online.
