CEM collaborates with the Macau Fire Services Bureau and local associations to host electrical safety seminar

Macau, 28 April 2025

To raise public awareness about electrical safety and to educate on emergency handling during fires, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) collaborated with the Macau Fire Services Bureau and several local organizations, including the Women’s General Association of Macau, General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), Macau Obra das Mães, Property Management Business Association Macau, the Rehabilitation Center of Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), and Cáritas Macau WelAnser Centre, to host a number of sessions of Electrical Safety Seminar from April to May. These seminars have attracted nearly 600 residents, industry insiders and professionals, fully demonstrating the community’s concern for electrical safety and fire prevention.

At the seminars, CEM engineers presented detailed information on fundamental electrical safety practices, including the correct use of household electrical appliances and the avoidance of electrical overloads. Property owners were also advised to pay attention to the communal electrical installations that are jointly owned by them. CEM urged property owners to hire electrical contractors to conduct regular inspections of the building’s communal electrical installations to identify potential safety hazards early and reduce fire risks. Personnel from the Fire Services Bureau explained the common causes of fires and the importance of fire prevention, as well as precautions for daily use of gas appliances, to further enhance the public’s awareness of fire hazards.

The summer season is approaching, citizens’ electricity consumption will rise with the increasing temperatures. During peak electricity consumption periods, accidents involving communal electrical installations in buildings occasionally occur, which may result in power trips and outages or, in severe cases, fires and explosions. Citizens are urged to pay attention to the electrical safety in both buildings and homes to prevent accidents. CEM will continue to hold seminars and conduct internal drills to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
