CEM Ambassadors Team and General Volunteers Association of Macao provide hair-cutting services to 80 senior citizens to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival
30 August 2022, Macau
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, CEM Ambassadors Team and the volunteers from General Volunteers Association of Macao (GVAM) paid a visit to Pou Tai Un in Taipa for the second year on 30 August to provide hair-cutting services as well as present low-sugar mooncakes and CEM 50th anniversary face masks to 80 senior citizens as a gesture of festive goodwill.
Geoffrey Chan, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee, joined 10 CEM Ambassadors and youth volunteers from GVAM to assist in the venue setup under the guidance of the representative of Pou Tai Un. Accompanied by the volunteers with the help of Pou Tai Un staff, the senior citizens headed to the hall where they were given haircuts by GVAM volunteers, while CEM Ambassadors sought to strike up conversations with them.
The senior citizens were looking forward to the visit of CEM Ambassadors, and during the hair-cutting service, they chitchatted eagerly on the recent happenings of their lives. The Ambassadors had to learn how the seniors wanted their hair to be styled prior to the service and were glad to see them looking more confident and fresh afterwards. The haircut took only ten minutes or so, but the Ambassadors seized the opportunity to chitchat with the elderly to let them know they are heard. Finally, the Ambassadors presented low-sugar healthy malt mooncakes and face masks to them as a gift for the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is their excitement and cheerful smiles that have motivated CEM Ambassadors to come back and visit the Pou Tai Un every year.
The Mid-Autumn Festival signifies family reunion and togetherness. As an integral part of the Macau community, CEM is committed to participating in community services and engaging with local social groups, so as to deepen its staff’s understanding of the local communities and jointly build a caring and inclusive society.
