CEM partners with Macau Youth Federation and Macau Youth Volunteers Association to launch ‘Youth Community Service Project’

Macau, 7 June 2021

To raise awareness among young people about issues such as environmental protection and care for the most vulnerable in our community, CEM partnered with the Macau Youth Federation and the Macau Youth Volunteers Association to launch the "Youth Community Service Project". Throughout June, 80 young volunteers from both associations will participate in four activities organized by CEM, aiming to encourage the youth to be more sustainable in their actions.

The first activity was kicked off on Saturday, 6 June, with a visit to ANIMA's shelter by 20 volunteers from the Macau Youth Volunteers Association together with CEM’s team. It aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of taking care of animals, conveying the message that animals should not be abandoned or mistreating, and getting to know what is being done in Macau on animal protection. During the visit, volunteers had the opportunity to walk some of the dogs of the shelter. The group was warmly welcomed by Billy Chan, ANIMA’s President of the Board of Directors.

Jaclyn Iun, Senior Manager of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications took the opportunity to thank ANIMA for allowing the group to understand how it is to manage an animal shelter and the challenges they face, as well as praising the meritorious work they perform as a contribution for the well-being of Macau society.

Ng Si Weng, member of the Macau Youth Volunteers Association said that “it's my first time visiting an animal shelter. I am very fond of animals and I have pets myself. I was very interested in knowing how animals are treated in Macau. I was surprised by the number of animals that are here at the shelter, and I would like to appeal to all Macau citizens to take good care of their animals and not abandon them, as they are our friends and give us a lot of joy”.

On 12 June, 20 volunteers from the Macau Youth Federation will participate in a recycling program promoted by Macau for Waste Reduction. The volunteers will be divided into three teams to station at St. Joseph University, Ha Wa Baptist Association and Sun Tou Tong Community Center. They will help the residents who go there to segregate the various types of recyclable products, conveying the message of the importance of conserving natural resources.

On 19 June, another 20 volunteers from Macau Youth Federation will accompany 20 seniors with low mobility referred by Macau Caritas to spend a joyful afternoon together. They will tour around to take a cable car ride at Wynn Palace, a short tour to CEM’s Coloane Power Station and visit Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Ka Ho with an afternoon tea snack for everyone.

Finally, on 27 June, 20 volunteers from Macau Youth Volunteers Association will participate in an urban farming activity promoted by Mighty Greens, where the youngsters will have the chance to learn how to grow their own organic food by themselves.
