CEM and Women's General Association of Macau jointly hold Seminar on Energy Saving and Safety

5 August 2020, Macau

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) and the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM) jointly organized the “Energy Saving and Safety Seminar”, one of the promotional activities under the “Macau Energy Saving Activity” co-organized by CEM and the Office for the Development of Energy Sector of Macau SAR (GDSE). The Labour Affairs Bureau and AGMM have teamed up to organize some seminars for fishermen's families during the fishing moratorium, and to tie in with the efforts, this Seminar introduced to 50 fishing family members the knowledge of energy saving and safety and raised their awareness about the importance of regular maintenance and repair of building communal electrical installations.

The Seminar covered wide-ranging topics from CEM customer services to household energy safety and energy saving tips, all the way to the responsibilities of building communal electrical installations and the importance of regular maintenance. Guests in attendance included Ada Chan, Vice-President of AGMM; Yeung Suk Yi, Vice-President of the Supervisory Board of AGMM; Uman Cheang, Director of CEM Customer Services Department; Cecilia Nip, Director of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office. CEM speakers included Ryan Chan, Officer of Customer Contact Management and Colin Ng, Engineer of Technical Service Management from Customer Services Department.

At the Seminar, Ada Chan expressed gratitude to CEM for sending professional staff to AGMM to give the special talk on energy saving and safety, to teach residents how to save energy while using electrical appliances safely and encourage household energy conservation while choosing appropriate safe electrical appliances. The Fishermen’s families can learn about household energy saving and safety through the Seminar.

Uman Cheang said power outages occurred at some buildings in recent years because of equipment failures and fire due to lack of maintenance of the communal electrical installations.  As the communal power facilities in buildings are owned by property owners, they must appoint experienced electrical contractors to examine and repair communal electrical installations in buildings regularly to ensure power safety. Uman Cheang called on attendees to discuss with their property owners’ associations after the Seminar and pay more attention to the relevant problems to review if there are potential risks of communal electrical installations that require follow up.

At the end of the Seminar, CEM assisted attendees to register in the “5% Energy Saving Action” Lucky Draw, which is one of the Activities of “Macau Energy Saving Activity” for Tariff A residential customers, aiming to encourage residents to put the knowledge of energy-saving into the daily lives and develop the habit of energy saving. Residential customers who save 5% or more electricity during the four consecutive months from July to October 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, can participate in the lucky draw after registration to win prizes totaling MOP 90,000.
