CEM provides free safety checks of electrical installations for needy households

9 July 2020, Macau

As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to ease, CEM re-launched the outreach caring activities of CEM Ambassadors Team. On 9 July, CEM Ambassadors Team collaborated with Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) to visit 20 needy households at Areia Preta and Iao Hon, and provide free safety inspections of electrical installations to ensure the safe use of electricity.

More than 20 CEM Ambassadors grouped with FAOM volunteers to visit the households and share pandemic-related health information and energy saving tips with them. They also presented them with daily supplies and carried out visual inspections of electrical installations. Upon detection of any abnormality, they will refer the cases to volunteers under CEM Community Program for follow-ups.

Principal Advisor to CEM Executive Committee Benjamin Yu led the Team and said, “The Company has been working with different social welfare organizations to care for the needy. Unfortunately, all outreach activities were suspended since the beginning of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are pleased the caring activity can be relaunched now. We hope to help more of those in need, to cheer for everyone and bring positive vibe to Macau.”

Vice President to FAOM Kelvin Choi said, “Grassroot workers are the hardest hit amidst the global economic downturn. Apart from economic aid, it is of utmost importance that we also care about their emotional well-being. We expressed gratitude to CEM Ambassadors for going into the community and bringing love and joy to the grassroot workers.”

Apart from the CEM Ambassadors’ caring activities, CEM has also re-started its Community Program in June, providing free safety inspection and maintenance of household electrical installations for seniors who live in solitude, under-privileged families as well as people with special needs. Besides accepting referred cases from local associations, CEM also welcomes citizens to refer disadvantaged individuals in need (those to receive assistance shall hold valid Beneficiary Cards issued by the Social Welfare Bureau).
