CEM and Women's General Association of Macau jointly hold Seminar on Energy Saving and Safety

CEM and the Women’s General Association of Macau (AGMM) jointly organized “Energy Saving and Safety Seminar” earlier, with more than 160 citizens in attendance. The Seminar aims to publicize knowledge of energy saving and safety and raise people's awareness about the importance of regular maintenance and repair of building communal electrical installations. The attending representatives included Ada Chan, Vice President of AGMM; Ho Ka Ian, Council Member and Deputy Service Director of AGMM; Jane Leong, Director of CEM Customer Services Department and Cecilia Nip, Director of CEM Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Communications Office.

CEM has co-organized the Energy Saving Activity with the Office for the Development of Energy Sector of Macau SAR since 2009, in an effort to encourage local residents and hotel industry to save energy and contribute to the government’s vision of “Building a low-carbon Macau, creating green living together”. A number of Energy Saving and Safety Seminars were held with different local associations during the Activity to enhance public awareness of energy conservation and safety.

The Seminar covered the introduction of CEM customer services, household energy safety and saving tips, the responsibilities of building communal electrical installations, as well as the importance of regular maintenance. CEM speakers included: Aidan Cheang, Officer of Customer Contact Management and Freeman Lok, Senior Engineer of Technical Services Management from Customer Services Department.

At the Seminar, Ho Ka Ian thanked CEM for fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities by arranging professionals to promote energy safety and saving through multiple channels and formats. Ho said that AGMM has paid keen attention to the upgrade of power supply facilities in recent years. AGMM has also actively devoted to energy conservation and environmental protection with an aim of developing Macau into a “green city”. She expected AGMM members to share the tips they learned from the Seminar with their family and friends and put green concepts into their daily lives, in a bid to contribute to the blue sky in Macau.

Cecilia Nip said CEM hopes apart from energy safety at home, citizens should also attach importance to regular inspection and maintenance of communal electrical installations in buildings. Currently there are more than 4,000 buildings of over 20 to 30 years old in Macau. Recently power outage occurred at some buildings because of equipment failures and fire due to lack of maintenance of the communal electrical installations. As the communal power facilities in buildings are owned by property owners, Nip suggested property owners must appoint experienced electrical contractors to examine and repair communal electrical installations in buildings regularly to ensure power safety.

At the end of the Seminar, CEM assisted attendees to register in the “5% Energy Saving Action” Lucky Draw, which is one of the Activities of “Macau Energy Saving Activity”, aiming to encourage residents to put the knowledge of energy-saving into the daily lives and develop the habit of energy saving. Residential customers who save 5% or more electricity during the four consecutive months from July to October 2019, compared to the same period in 2018, can participate in the lucky draw after registration. This year, a new “Friends and Family Referral” award is added to encourage citizens who have registered in the 5% Energy Saving Action Lucky Draw to invite their friends and family members to participate in the activity. Those who successfully invited two or more friends and family members, as well as the invitees, will be eligible to join the lucky draw. A total of MOP 100,000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs. The lucky draw is opened for enrollment from now till 30 September. Detailed information is available on GDSE Website www.gdse.gov.mo or CEM Website www.cem-macau.com.
