In order to promote the safety culture and reinforce the awareness of CEM contractors towards occupational safety and health, CEM organized a two-day “Safety Training for Contractors” on 13 and 14 December at the Plaza Restaurant, attracting more than one hundred employees from CEM’s contractors to participate actively. CEM has been holding relevant training for its contractors since 2014, with the current one being the fourth session to date. The training has been recognized and supported by the industry.

CEM has always cared about occupational safety and health of every employee. For many years, the company has consistently carried out various activities to strengthen internal occupational health and safety culture, including organizing Toolbox Talk for operational units and frontline employees, holding safety knowledge competitions regularly and strengthening employees’ awareness to safety and health, in a bid to realize zero accidents at work. 

In addition to its employees, CEM also works closely with contractors to promote work safety. The training program held this time enables CEM and contractors to grow in the same direction. On the other hand, CEM has been presenting the Safety and Health, Environment and Quality Excellence Award since 2008 to recognize contractors and suppliers who excel in safety, health, environmental protection, and quality. 

The training was hosted by Sou Kuok Fai, Senior Technician of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau, and Eddie Ung, Network Strategy and Policy Senior Engineer of CEM Transmission and Distribution Department. Sou Kuok Fai analyzed some major work accidents in Macau for the participants, and introduced through interactive ways the working procedures for maintenance and repairs, occupational safety and health knowledge, as well as other matters requiring attention amid various projects. On the other hand, Eddie Ung introduced CEM’s underground cable and pipe position surveying and the preparatory works prior to construction, which aimed to facilitate contractors’ work efficiency.

Contractor employees who attended the training session said they learned a lot, and found the content informative and practical. They hoped that CEM can organize more of such courses or lectures to further enhance their knowledge.
