CEM and Macau Institute of Management Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Education & Learning Initiatives

On 24 September 2015, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) and Macau Institute of Management (MIM) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Education and Learning Initiatives at Hotel Grand Lapa. Through goodwill and mutual benefit on a continuous basis, both parties will contribute positively to the lifelong education and continuous professional development of CEM employees. The signing ceremony was officiated by Tommy Lau, MMA Council Chairman and Bernie Leong, Chairman of CEM Executive Committee, with witnessed by Bao Keng Tou, Council Vice-Chairman of MMA, Oscar Chan, Director of MIM, Benjamin Yue, Executive Committee Principal Advisor of CEM and Iun Iok Meng, Executive Committee Advisor of CEM. Other guests included representatives of MIM and CEM senior managers from various departments.

In line with the core values of CEM to strive for professionalism, respect for the community and personnel, CEM has decided to collaborate with MIM to enhance the competency of its employees by sponsoring potential employees to enroll in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program held by MIM. This collaboration is one of the several CEM’s initiatives to partner with local education institutions in order to strengthen the liaison between industrial and educational sectors. It allows both sectors to share information and experiences, raise the quality and expertise of CEM personnel, at the same time to strengthen the integration of education programs within the business world.

During the ceremony, Tommy Lau indicated that MIM, as a higher education institute as well as a professional training organization, has been committed to promoting sound academic and training services. Under the close collaboration with local and overseas universities, MIM constantly renovates curriculums, introduces state-of-the-art management concepts, and provides tailor-made training courses for various companies and public services to let students merge knowledge into practice. This time MIM and CEM join hands again in launching this cooperation that symbolizes their commitment to nurture talents for Macau. An important item in this MoU is that MIM will be providing the MBA program for CEM employees, which is co-organized by MIM and Chaminade University of Honolulu with the recognition by the Tertiary Education Services Office of Macau SAR. This program is the only U.S. MBA program currently offered in Macau. He believed that participants would increase understanding of management and improve management skills through this cooperation, which would surely help them in the workplace and increase the opportunities of upward mobility.

Bernie Leong showed his greatest gratitude to MIM for their support in the past and future. As a major public service provider in Macau, CEM has been attaching great importance to staff training, in order to help employees deliver outstanding work performances to support the development of Macau. Under this new collaboration, potential employees will be appointed and sponsored to attend the MBA Program held by MIM. It is delighted to have this collaboration because investing in its people is the best investment for a company. It will provide long-term sustainable benefits to CEM through lifting of the professionalism and morale of employees, as well as quality of services. The MBA program is only one of the several collaborations that CEM had with MIM. In addition to other regular training programs, CEM will continue to explore future collaboration opportunities with MIM and other training institutions in Macau, to establish programs that can enhance their employees’ professional development. Lastly, he expressed his appreciation to MIM for their continuous support in CEM’s various training courses.
