To Promote Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Corporate Culture, CEM Presents Awards to Recognize Contractors & Suppliers

Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) established the “Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Excellence Awards” in 2008 to recognize outstanding contractors and suppliers. Entering the fifth year, the program has received mass support and participation from various industries. Up to now 40 institutions have been recognized with awards. This year Award Presentation Ceremony was held today at Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre.

Guests attending the Ceremony included Director of Labour Affairs Bureau Wong Chi Hong, Head of Environmental Publicity and Education Division of Environmental Protection Bureau Un In Lin, Head of Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs of the University of Macau Michael Leung, Executive Committee Chairman of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association Kou Chi Leong, CEM Customer Liaison Committee President Vong Kok Seng and Vice President Lei Chi Fong, Senior Technician of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau Chui Ka Shing, CEM Executive Committee Chairman Bernie Leong, Principal Advisor to the Executive Committee Benjamin Yue, Advisor to the Executive Committee Iun Iok Meng and etc.

Bernie Leong addressed that CEM has been paying significant attention to the improvement of the occupational safety and health of the working environment, and strongly believed that a safe and healthy working environment can guarantee high working efficiency and quality.

Therefore, CEM endeavors to provide regular occupational safety and health training for its employees, contractors and suppliers. More than 200 employees of the contractors participated in the training courses under the support of Labour Affairs Bureau in 2014 and 2015. Leong said Macau will be embracing more infrastructure projects and large constructions in the future, hence the occupational safety and health work remains challenging. In addition, he advised the employers to strive for the best in risk management and the employees to take full safety precaution.

To strengthen risk management education for contractors and suppliers, CEM specially invited Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Risk Management & Safety Dr Vincent Ho to be the key speaker to elaborate on the establishment of a risk-informed culture. His presentation focused on safety challenges and Risk-Informed Safety Management. He encouraged enterprises to consider the elements of safety and risk awareness
