To promote safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable engineering operation and professional development, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM) received a delegation composed of the Trustee Board members of the Society of Operations Engineers of the United Kingdom (SOE UK) and the Committee members of the SOE Hong Kong Regional Group (SOE HKR). They were warmly welcomed by CEM Senior Management including the Chairman of the Executive Committee Bernie Leong, Principal Advisor to the Executive Committee Benjamin Yue, Transmission and Distribution Department Senior Manager Billy Chan and Human Resources Department Manager Wendy Vong.

During the visit, both parties exchanged views on how SOE can support the continuing professional development and enhancement of training capabilities for CEM’s engineers. SOE UK Trustee Board Members Chris Grime and John Eastman gave a presentation outlining the benefits of SOE membership, professional engineering registration process as well as registration as Chartered Environmentalist.

Bernie Leong expressed his gratitude towards SOE for the cultivation of engineering expertise by providing regular seminars and visits as well as technical supports for the continuing professional development. CEM hopes to have collaboration with SOE in the near future in a bid to continuously strengthen the exchange of information and experience between members in the engineering sector.

SOE HKR Honorary President Professor Edmund Chuk acknowledged CEM, as the only heavy industry in Macau, makes significant contribution to the local employment, economic diversification and development of higher education, and creates more job opportunities to the younger generations. He hopes that SOE and CEM can work together to cultivate the talents and achieve mutual goals.

SOE is a world-renowned professional engineering institution based in London, United Kingdom. It is licensed by the Engineering Council to award registration for Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer, Chartered Engineer as well as Information and Communication Technology Technician. It is also licensed by the Society of the Environment to award “Chartered Environmentalist” status to members who meet criteria.
