To encourage hotels and property management business customers to put energy conservation and emission reduction into practice, CEM and GDSE jointly organize the Macau Energy Saving Contest again this year, aims to enhance public awareness on energy conservation. The co-organizers include the General Residents Association of Macau, Macau Property Management Business Association and Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association.

The six-month Contest will be launched in May. Comparison will be based on the six consecutive billing months of electricity consumption from May to October 2015 with the same period in 2014, and the participating entities that save the highest percentage of energy and pass the assessment will be named the winners. The Contest will include Public Building Facilities Group and Hotel Group. The two groups are now open for enrollment. The registration date is set from today until June 15. All hotels, building property owners and property management companies in Macau are welcome to enroll in the Contest through the organizers or co-organizers. The judges are formed by local celebrities and they will make the final judgment for the Contest. Invited judges includes Lewis Chan, Macau Consumer Council Executive Committee Member, João Ramos, Chairman of Macau Energy Saving Association, Chan Veng Iun, Vice Director of Macau Association of Consumers of Public Utility Companies, Cheang Io Tung, President of Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association and Andy Tam, Standing Director of Macau Association of Building Contractors and Developers. The results of the Contest will be announced in January 2016.

CEM first launched the Contest during the summer of 2009 and has saved a total of around 68 million kWh of electricity in six years. Previously customers that participated in the Hotel Group and Public Building Facilities Group of Macau Energy Saving Contest successfully achieved the goal of energy saving by introducing a lot of new initiatives and programs to save energy. This not only saved their operating costs but also made them responsible corporate citizens who lead energy saving and carbon reduction.

The Hotel Group will include three categories based on the subscribed demand, with Champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and Excellence awards to be presented in each category. In addition to the above awards, an “Energy-saving Concept” award is set for the “Hotel” Group with trophies awarded. To compete for this award, the contestants need to submit the relevant equipment installation, energy conservation measures and management information etc. before 30 September 2015.
