CEM participates in “2015 MIECF”

Macau, 25 March 2015

Themed on “Green Economy – Solutions for Clean Air”, the annual Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF), first organized by the Macau SAR Government in 2008, aims to encourage enterprises to make a contribution to environmental protection. In response to the initiative, CEM once again sets up an exhibition booth at the 2015 MIECF to enhance the public’s knowledge of the connection between green energy and livable city as well as CEM’s efforts in environmental protection. The exhibition booth, which echoes with the notion that low carbon power generation makes Macau more livable, features earth-toned colors and recycled and green materials to highlight eco-friendliness.

CEM has always been dedicated to managing its business by adhering strictly to sustainable development, striving to realize sustainable utilization of resources and to create a more harmonious and comfortable living environment for Macau. To continue to provide quality electricity services and to ensure CEM is operated under an efficient manner, following the Integrated Management System External Audit in 2014, all five certificates (ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gases Management System and ISO 20000 IT Service Management System) have been successfully renewed.

In addition, to improve local generation capacity and efficiency, CEM has been in talks with the Macau SAR Government to replace some old and inefficient diesel power generation units with an eco-friendly and efficient Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) unit. Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel energy for power generation. The power plant equipped with new CCGT unit will have efficiency improved by 90% when compared to the old units in Macau and Coloane Power Stations, as well as reduce the emissions of CO, NOx, SOx and CO2 by 91%, 99%, 100% and 68%, respectively.

Besides elaborating on the company’s efforts in environmental protection, CEM also set up a “phone charging station” and an area for photographing with Power Boy family in the exhibition booth for visitors to charge their mobile phones and take 3D photos with CEM’s lovely mascot Power Boy and his new friend – Light Buzz. The exhibition will be held from 26 to 28 March 2015 at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. The first two days are open to industry professionals and the exhibition will be open to public free of charge on 28 March, from 9am to 6pm.
