CEM Representatives Take Part in the “19th Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau Power Industry Services Seminar” Held in Foshan

To establish a closer cooperation tie among power companies and to promote the development of the power industry, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau - CEM, S.A. (CEM), Guangdong Power Grid Corporation (GPG) and CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) hold the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau Power Industry Services Seminar annually in turn. The Seminar reached its 19th anniversary and it was hosted by GPG Foshan Power Supply Bureau at the Marco Polo Hotel in Foshan on 7 November.

The Seminar this year features the theme of “Big Data, Micro Service.” The advanced computer technology has enabled people to leverage on big data to communicate and let the society filled with huge amount of data. These data have a far-reaching influence on the smart energy industry. The integration of big data with computing technology analysis will contribute to more effective and accurate planning, generation, transmission, distribution and application of electricity, thus promoting a sustainable development in the energy industry along with the economic development.

Over 100 delegates from power companies in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau attended the “19th Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau Power Services Seminar”. They were well prepared and had in-depth and thought-provoking discussions on the topic. They also shared valuable experiences and exchanged different views during the seminar in striving to improve the service quality of power companies from the three regions. In the Seminar, CEM Customer Services Department Metering Services Management Engineer Dave Leong presented “The Metering System at the New Campus of the University of Macau” to participants. The automatic meter reading system at the University of Macau’s new campus adopts the redundancy optical fiber rings which can speed up data transmission and reduce data collection time to further enhance the system reliability and accuracy. On the other hand, Jose Lam, Customer Services Department Account Programs Management Customer Consultant, introduced “Share Information with Customers”. Attendees can learn about how CEM shares the information about electricity consumption analysis and power quality notification service with large customers, in the hope of helping them understand more about their patterns of electricity usage and reduce the impact when a voltage dip occurs.

At the closing ceremony, CEM Principal Advisor to the Executive Committee João Travassos said, “The era of big data has arrived and the large amount of data enable people from all walks of life to analyze customers’ behavior and their usage patterns in a more accurate manner. The theme of this year seminar, “Big Data, Micro Service”, keeps us abreast of time to meet the development needs of today. The Seminar gave us the opportunity to have an in-depth exploration in the management and application of smart energy.” João Travassos believes that the Seminar not only strengthens cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, but also facilitates the development of the power industry. Next year the Seminar will reach its remarkable milestone of 20th anniversary. It will be hosted by CEM in Macau. On behalf of CEM, João Travassos invited all delegates to join this significant event. During the Seminar, the Foshan Power Supply Bureau arranged delegates from the three regions to visit its Supply Experience Center which is called the “Foshan Science Education Base”. The Centre features comprehensive facilities and plays an active role in promoting the science education. CEM delegates also benefited a lot from the visit of the customer service center and service monitoring center showcasing extraordinary service quality of the Foshan Power Supply Bureau. Other delegates from CEM include Iun Iok Meng, Benjamin Yue, Jane Leong, Luella Wong, Jaclyn Iun, Thomas Cheang, Dragon Ho, Ryan Chan, Steven Chiang, Angela Chen and Trista Cheong.
