CEM Delegates Participated in the 20th Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry in Korea

The 20th Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI 2014) was held from 27 to 29 October at the International Convention Center (ICC), Jeju, Korea. CEPSI, as a biennial event, is hosted by the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP) as well as member countries or regions. This time, the co-organizer is Korea Electric Power Corporation. As an important event in Asia, CEPSI aims to further promote exchanges and cooperation between the power industries in the Asia Pacific region, publish the related research results of the power industry and provide the opportunity for the countries to share technical experiences. The CEPSI 2014, themed on “The Role and Responsibilities of the Electric Power Industry to Make a Smart and Green Society”, focused on climate change, nuclear safety, smart grid, power construction and operation. Over 1,000 power and power-related participants from 40 countries and regions attended the meeting, including corporate executives, technicians, experts, scholars and government officials to discuss and exchange views on the hot topics with global concern such as the development of renewable energy and the strategies in smart grid development.

CEM Chairman of the Executive Committee Bernie Leong led a team of 18 delegates including Keegan Cheang, Customer Services Department Senior Manager; Billy Chan, Network Operations & Maintenance Department Senior Manager; Ip Kam Veng, Generation Department Senior Manager; Safety, Edmond Etchri, Health, Environment and Quality Office Senior Manager; Cecilia Nip, Communications and Public Affairs Senior Manager, etc. to attend the Conference.

Bernie Leong stated that climate change is a global issue. It has become not only the research focus of the international scientific community in the past decades, but also one of the heated topics among public in recent years. A wide array of power enterprises across the globe, including China, has endeavored to tackle climate change and to apply environmental-friendly and renewable energy resources. To build a smart and green society, power enterprises do play a significant role. CEPSI is a perfect platform to let power enterprises have an in-depth discussion about critical issues across the globe in pursuing sustainable development. Through the exchange and sharing in the Conference, CEM will be able to review its internal management and service quality for further improvement to sustain the delivery of superior power supply services for Macau in future.

CEM also hosted the 17th Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry in 2008 in Macau. During the five-day Conference, besides various sessions, there was also an exhibition with over 6,000 square meters. With global power industry leaders gathered together, it was a noteworthy event for the year.
