CEM installs doorbell flashlights for the members of Macau Deaf Association

Macau, 22 May 2014

CEM has a long-standing culture of social corporate citizenship as an active and involved partner in the community. In 2014, CEM launches a new initiative with cooperation with the Macau Deaf Association (MDA) to provide free safety checks and installation of doorbell flashlights for their members, as well as to provide financial support via a charity donation campaign through CEM popular Energizing Tour Facebook fan page. CEM pioneered to launch in 2000 a program called ‘Community Programme’ in which voluntary technical staff provide free of charge safety checks and rewiring of electrical installations for elder citizens living alone, underprivileged families, and citizens with special needs. This year the Program has been extended to help the members of MDA. CEM volunteers will not only perform the safety checks but will also install special doorbell flashlights for the members of MDA. Although it is crucial for the deaf people to have such installation, nowadays it is difficult to hire an electrician to carry out this kind of job. Thus, 15 MDA members have applied to be included in this pilot initiative. First upgrade was kicked-off on 21 May, with the presence of the Advisor to CEM Executive Committee, Iun Iok Meng and MDA Director, Lau Sut Man. Iun Iok Meng expressed his sincere gratitude to MDA for joining hands with CEM to launch this meaningful initiative. CEM hopes the program allows MDA members to live in a safer environment. Lau Sut Man extended her gratitude towards CEM for actively fulfilling corporate social responsibility by providing extra care and help for the deaf people in Macau. It is important that deaf people are given opportunities to live better, overcome their daily obstacles, and be encouraged to fully participate and contribute to the society by developing their self-esteem and independence.

Apart from the technical assistance, CEM is also offering MDA financial support through a donation campaign in its Energizing Tour Facebook fan page. CEM has started in May a new series of the Energizing Tour to its Coloane Power Station, during which citizens can have the opportunity to have a closer look at the local power generation. To enhance the interaction with the public, CEM has created a Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/EnergizingTour, where all the fans can share their photos taken during the Tour, give their opinions to CEM for improvement and win fantastic prizes. This year CEM is launching a Charity Donation Campaign, encouraging all visitors to LIKE the Page. For each ‘LIKE’ received during the Tour, not only the visitors get a CEM souvenir instantly, and five out of all fans who LIKE the page will win a MOP500 supermarket cash coupon, MOP10 will also be donated to the Macau Deaf Association. Plus, all visitors will get a trendy CEM umbrella and have the chance to win a MOP3,888 electrical appliances cash coupon. Tours are taking place every first and third Saturdays of each month from May to December 2014, in the morning (from 10:00am to 12:30pm) and in the afternoon (from 2:30pm to 5:00pm). Citizens can simply call 8393 1202 for reservation.
