Thousands participated this Sunday in CEM Energy Fun Fair at Tap Seac Square

With the theme “Electricity’s extraordinary versatility” and targeting Macau younger generation, CEM organized on Sunday, 6 October, 2013 with the collaboration of Civic Municipal Affairs Bureau, Youth and Education Affairs Bureau and the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector the 12th edition of Energy Fun Fair, which took place at Tap Seac Square in Macau, from 11:00am to 4:30pm.

Thirteen local secondary schools accepted the challenge to participate and demonstrate their knowledge and skills by competing among themselves in four contests throughout the event, namely the “Best Booth Design Contest”, in which they had to design a game booth for the public’s learning and interaction; the “Recycled Art Piece Contest”, in which they had to create an art piece for exhibition, by using solely recycling items; the “Talents Contest”, by showing their creativity and talent in areas such as singing, dancing and drama; and for the first time in the Energy Fun Fair, the “Best Cheering Group”.

The thirteen schools included Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (English Section), Escola Tung Sin Tong, Millennium Secondary School, Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou, Yuet Wah College (English Section), Escola Pui Ching, Escola Portuguesa de Macau, Escola Kao Yip, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Escola Pui Tou, Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa Luís Gonzaga Gomes and Escola Ling Nam. Children were the focus of the event. They had the chance to play various game booths and win fantastic prizes including recycled bags, stationary items, and a limited edition Power Boy watch. Some of them also played the popular TV game show “Minute to Win” on stage. From all those who participated in the booth games and voted in “My Favorite Booth”, one was fortunate to win a fabulous ‘Mini iPad’. The lucky winner is Lei Hou Wa.

A closing ceremony was held at 5:00pm, with guests of honor including Arnaldo Santos, representative of the Secretary for Transport and Public Works of Macau SAR and Director of the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector, Mak Kim Meng, Administration Committee Member of Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Hong Chon Choi, Functional Head of Environmental Protection Bureau Environmental Infrastructures Management Center, Fong Ieok Mui, Acting Chief of Department of Administration of Youth and Education Affairs Bureau, Vong Kok Seng, President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee, CEM Executive Director, Jorge Vieira and Director of the Association of CEM & SAAM Workers, Charles Leong.

CEM Executive Director Jorge Vieira highlighted in his speech ‘We feel proud that the Energy Fun Fair throughout these years has become a popular annual event, contributing to enhance the learning interest of the younger generation.’ ‘Students’ enthusiasm, creativity and great knowledge and concern on energy conservation make us feel confident that our future is in good hands.’

Prizes for the several competitions were announced during the closing ceremony. The top three winning schools of the “Best Booth Design Contest” were: 1st place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), 2nd place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Chinese Section), and 3rd place, Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou, winning respectively MOP5,000, MOP3,000, MOP2,000 and one trophy each; the top three winning schools of the “Talents Contest” were: 1st place, Colégio do Coração de Jesus (English Section) , 2nd place, Colégio do Coração de Jesus (Chinese Section), and 3rd place, Millennium Secondary School, winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,500, MOP1,000 and one trophy each; the top three winning schools of the “Recycled Art Piece Contest” were: 1st place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Chinese Section), 2nd place, Escola Portuguesa de Macau, and 3rd place, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section), winning respectively MOP2,000, MOP1,500, MOP1,000 and one trophy each. Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (English Section) was chosen by the public as “My Favorite Booth”, winning MOP1,000 and one trophy, and the prize of MOP1,000 for “Best Cheering Group” was won by Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Chinese Section).

Schools performances were scored by an invited panel of professional judges representing Civic and Municipal Affair Bureau, Youth and Education Affairs Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, General Residents Association of Macau, Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Women’s General Association of Macao, The Chinese Educators Association of Macao, Macau Institute of Engineers, Association of Consumers of Public Utility Companies, Macau Electromechanics Professionals Association, Macau Construction Association, Consumer Council and CEM Management.
