Underground Cable Fault at San Kio and Three Lamps Areas

Macao, 17 June 2011

This afternoon at 12:45pm, a fault happened at an underground high-voltage cable located at Rua de Afonso de Albuquerque Escola Hou Kong. The fault led to a power outage to some of the customers at Rua de Afonso de Albuquerque, Avenida Horta e Costa, Rua da Barca, Rua Almirante Costa Cabral and Rua do Bispo Medeiros. About 2,000 customers were affected. CEM immediately sent emergency service team and engineers to repair the fault. Before the power restoration, CEM’s emergency service team has carried out a throughout investigation to ensure the system reliability and supply condition. The power supply was gradually restored at 1:06pm and was fully restored at 1:23pm. The incident is currently under investigation.

In order to further ensure the reliability of power supply to be in line with the surge of electricity consumption, CEM is reviewing the condition of the power network and defining a medium and long-term development plan to reinforce the network reliability. Moreover, a number of investment projects on equipment enhancement will be submitted to the Government, which includes a Smart Grid project to cope with the future development of Macao.

CEM sincerely apologizes to the customers affected by the power outage and assures that it is strongly committed to the community to continue providing quality service to Macao.
