CEM and the Industry and Commerce Association of Macao Northern District jointly hold “Energy Saving and Safety” Seminar

To foster business customers’ knowledge of power consumption and safety, strengthen the promotion of maintenance of public electrical installations of buildings, introduce the reasons behind planned power outages as well as CEM’s customer services, CEM and the Industry and Commerce Association of Macao Northern District jointly held a seminar themed “Energy Saving and Safety” at Center for Continuing Education this afternoon. The seminar was attended by Wong Kin Chong and Ma Kin Cheong, Chairman and Director-General of the Industry and Commerce Association of Macao Northern District respectively. Other attendees included Advisor to the CEM Executive Committee Iun Iok Meng, CEM Customer Services Department Senior Manager Keegan Cheang and CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office Senior Manager Cecilia Nip.

Iun Iok Meng said that CEM had been committed to imparting the correct knowledge of power consumption to residents and the business sector through various channels. The seminar allowed the residents and the business sector in North District to express their views to the CEM representatives in person, reinforcing communication and relations between the company and the public. Wong Kin Chong was very grateful to the support of CEM, and believed that CEM could provide an opportunity for members to communicate with representatives from CEM. It strengthened North District residents and the business sector’s understanding of energy safety and provided a platform to promote communication between its members and CEM effectively.

Keegan Cheang said that as CEM had attached great importance to the SMEs in North District, it held the seminar to strengthen communication with the business customers in North District, and encourage SMEs to save energy and select appropriate and safe electrical appliances. Meanwhile, understanding the importance of maintenance and management of public power facilities is crucial so that citizens’ daily lives will not be affected due to the lack of maintenance. Cecilia Nip disclosed that CEM will continue to organize the “Macau Energy Saving Contest” this year. Apart from contributing to the efforts of environmental protection, participants stand a chance to win fabulous rewards. The contest is divided into different categories, including the Residential Group, Public Building Facilities Group and Restaurant and Hotel Group. The judging criteria will be based on the electricity consumption during the six consecutive billing months from May to October in 2013 as compared with the same period in 2012. Those who save the most energy will be the winners of the contest. Customers can refer to the “Macau Energy Saving Contest” on www.cem-macau.com to learn more details about the contest and enroll in it. The closing date is 31 July.

Customer Services Department Engineer Sin Ka Man introduced tips on energy saving during the seminar; Another Customer Services Department Engineer Clark Tang briefed customers on the maintenance and management of public power facilities, and the types and functions of relevant devices in buildings as well as the most commonly asked questions about maintenance issues and their importance. Customer Services Department Customer Contact Management Assistant Manager Deolinda Ma promoted the company’s online service App and anwsered the questions about the government’s subsidies on electricity fees.

Lastly, Eddey Chan, Senior Engineer of Network Planning, Design and Construction Department in CEM, explained the reasons behind the “planned power outages” and the handling procedures. It is inevitable to suspend power supply temporarily for the works to enhance the stability of power supply. For instance, the preventive maintenance and projects to strengthen the power distribution system may call for power supply suspension. In order to minimize the impact on customers, CEM ensures that the planned power outages will be properly arranged, monitored and implemented. CEM will also distribute notices to the affected customers before the power outages.
