CEM and Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau jointly hold seminar on energy saving and safety

A seminar on Energy Saving and Safety was held by CEM in collaboration with Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau today, starting from 8:00 p.m., at the first floor hall in the service center of Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau, with around three hundred citizens in attendance.

The seminar aimed to increase the knowledge of saving energy at homes in summer and safety use of electricity among the residential customers in the North District, and to strengthen the promotion of maintenance of public electrical installations of buildings. It also introduced the attendees to the reasons behind the planned power interruptions as well as CEM’s customer services. The event was attended by Director of Building Affairs Committee of Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau Ao Ieong Kuong Kao, Director of Youth Affairs Committee of Aliança de Povo de Instituição de Macau Henry Lei, CEM Customer Services Department Senior Manager Keegan Cheang, CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office Senior Manager Cecilia Nip. Ao Ieong Kuong Kao thanked CEM for the support. He said that CEM has been providing citizens with the opportunity to communicate with the company’s representatives, helping to enhance their awareness of electricity safety. He recognized the quality service provided by CEM for all the residents in Macau and endorsed CEM’s efforts in disseminating through multiple means the correct way of electricity usage.

Keegan Cheang said CEM has always attached great importance to the communication with customers and has paid attention to residents’ needs. The Company holds seminars regularly in the communities to strengthen communication with citizens. It also encourages household energy saving and the selection of appropriate and safe home appliances. Keegan expected residents could be aware of the importance of the maintenance and management of public electrical installations in buildings, so that their daily lives will not be affected due to the lack of maintenance.

During the seminar, Cecilia Nip called on attendees to participate in the Macau Energy Saving Contest. Apart from making a contribution to the environmental protection, the contestants will also have a chance to win fabulous prizes. The Contest is divided into the following categories: Residential Group, Public Building Facilities Group, Restaurant Group, and Hotel Group. Comparison will be based on the electricity consumption in the six consecutive billing months from May to October 2013 with the corresponding period in 2012, and those who save the highest percentage of energy will be the winners of the Contest. Customers can refer to the “Macau Energy Saving Contest 2013” on to learn more details, and enroll via the website. The closing date is July 31.

At the seminar, CEM Customer Services Department Metering Services Engineer Sin Ka Man introduced practical household energy-saving measures in summer. Besides, CEM Customer Services Department Engineer Clark Tang talked about the maintenance and management of public electrical installations, taking this opportunity to explain about the different types of public electrical installations in buildings and the relevant responsibilities; the most common problems in maintenance and the severity of these problems. CEM Customer Services Department Customer Contact Management Assistant Manager Deolinda Ma informed the participants about the e-Service mobile App and answered the most frequently asked questions about the government’s subsidy.

In the end, Eddey Chan, Senior Engineer of Network Planning, Design and Construction Department in CEM, explained the reasons behind the planned power outages and the handling procedures. It is inevitable to suspend power supply temporarily in a bid to enhance the stability of power supply. For instance, the preventive maintenance and projects targeting at strengthening power distribution system cannot be completed without suspending the power supply. In order to minimize the impact on customers, CEM will ensure that the planned power interruptions are properly arranged, controlled and executed. CEM will also distribute notices to the affected customers before the power outages.
