Optimizing power facilities in low-lying areas

Improvement Works of CEM

Ensure stable power supply

At present, the power supply in Macau is mainly imported from Mainland. To improve the reliability and stability of the power supply, CEM has maintained close ties with the Guangdong Power Grid (GPG) to continuously strengthen the disaster prevention and resilience capabilities of the local transmission network, including increasing the power supply point of the 500kV main network from two to three, gradually changing the 220kV overhead cable to underground transmission cable, and constructing the third 220kV transmission cable connecting GPG. These optimization projects will form a complementary pattern of three transmission channels in the north, middle and south of Macau, effectively reducing the impact of typhoons on the transmission network and securing power transmission to Macau during inclement weather.

Strengthen flood control measures for medium and low-voltage distribution networks

Taking in the experience from previous typhoons, especially the flooding issues in low-lying areas, CEM implemented a series of flood control measures and solutions to reduce flood risks of power facilities and the impact on the public. The measures, which enhance disaster resilience comprehensively, include optimizing the medium-voltage network structure, raising power facilities, installing flood barriers, strengthening the sealing of cable inlets, as well as installing flood alarm systems, flood detectors and sump pumps in customer substations, etc.

Message Distribution and Communication Enhancement

Publicity and Promotion

To let the public know more about the arrangements for our power suspension measures and channels for receiving relevant information during typhoon, in addition to holding press conference and sharing information with the public through local media, we also reached the community via a series of promotions, including setting up “Consultation Stations for Power Supply during Typhoon” at flood-affected areas in Macau and Coloane that allowed citizens to consult in person and get assistance in binding CEM WeChat account, as well as holding seminars with 10 civil society and professional organizations, which let citizens know more about how to get prepared for typhoon and allowed volunteers and professionals to provide assistance to citizens.
