Top three winning schools of CEM Solar Model Car Race with outstanding performance in HK Tree 2014

Macau, 3 November, 2014

Further to the organization of the 2nd edition of CEM Solar Model Car Race and 1st edition of CEM Capacitance Model Car Race at Coloane Power Station on 26 October, with the participation of nearly 400 students and teachers, formed 84 teams representing 26 local secondary schools, CEM sponsored the top three winning schools of Solar Model Car Race to represent Macau to compete in the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events (HK TREE 2014) in Hong Kong on 1 November.

Final top three wining schools of CEM Solar Model Car Race are Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – Chinese Section (Champion), Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (1st Runner-up) and Escola Secundária Pui Va (2nd Runner-up). This year was the 9th edition of HK TREE, aiming at raising the scientific and technological knowledge of the school students, and promoting their awareness of using renewable energy and realizing the important effect of renewable energy for the environment protection. This year, 298 secondary school teams and 145 primary school teams, with more than 1,200 students and teachers participated in HK TREE 2014.

HK TREE is divided into several competition categories: Solar Energy Model Car Competition; Super Capacitor Model Car Competition; Dynamo Smart Car Competition; and Wind Power Generator Design Competition. The Macau teams entered the Solar Energy Model Car Competition, and also in the Solar Model Car Friendly Race - Hong Kong Macau Cup, a special category created for the Macau teams to compete with the best teams from HK.

Atmosphere during the races was fantastic. For the students representing Macau it was indeed a great experience. They felt enthusiastic not only because they were representing Macau, but also with the opportunity to share experiences and compete with students from different schools and backgrounds. One student referred “It is my first time to join this type of competition out of Macau. I feel so thrilled to be here among so many students, and especially because I am representing my school and Macau here in Hong Kong. Next year, I will challenge my classmates to join this competition again”.

Overall, the Macau teams had a very good performance in all competitions entered. Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, 1st runner-up in Macau qualified to the final top 18, in a total of 143 teams participated in the Race.

All three Macau teams were selected for the top 10 in the Solar Energy Model Car Best Design, Escola Secundária Pui Va got the 4th place, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – Chinese Section got the 6th place and Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus got the 7th place. In the Solar Model Car Friendly Race - Hong Kong Macau Cup, Colégio do Sagrado Coração de Jesus got an outstanding first runner-up while Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima – Chinese Section got the second runner-up.
