Macao, 25 May 2011
To cope with the Hengqin overall development plan and the related municipal construction projects, the natural gas importation to Macao will be temporarily suspended starting from 1 June 2011 for 190 days. With the coordination of Energy Sector Development Office, CEM has made contact with Guangdong Power Grid to ensure the local power supply quality being unaffected. CEM will activate all the generating units according to actual needs.
CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office Senior Manager Iun Iok Meng expressed, considering the upward pressure impacted by the surging fuel oil price and RMB appreciation to the Tariff Clause Adjustment, CEM will maintain close contact with the Macao SAR government and find ways to avoid that the Tariff Clause Adjustment will be affected by the natural gas temporary suspension.
Considering the close cooperation and gradual integration among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, especially the facilitation of the Macao economy diversification, the Hengqin project is particularly important to Macao. Thus, CEM is dedicated to fully support and cope with the project development. By maintaining close contact with Macao SAR government, CEM will provide full cooperation in order to deliver quality power supply service for the Macao citizens.
