KLJC and CEM in agreement to jointly foster local technicians

In order to contribute to the sustainable growth of Macao, foster and provide sufficient pre-employment training for individuals aspiring to engage in technical operation sector, as well as strengthen citizens’ competitive edge in the employment market, Macao Kung Luen Vocational & Technical Middle School (KLJC) has joined hands with Companhia de Electricidade de Macao - CEM, S.A. (CEM) to organize the three-year Electrical Power System Technical Operator Course. The training course is expected to begin in September this year.

The cooperation agreement signing ceremony was held at KLJC on 9 June, officiated by KLJC Principal Fong Ka Fai and CEM Executive Director Jorge Vieira. Attending guests included Kuok Sio Lai, Deputy Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Hung Ling Biu, Head of Vocational Training Department of Labour Affairs Bureau, Ho Sut Heng, Chairman of Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Chiang Chong Sek, President of Macao Federations of Trade Unions, Lei Chi Fong, Vice-President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee. After the ceremony, the organizers especially arranged for the guests to visit the teaching workshops of KLJC.

During the ceremony, KLJC Principal Fong Ka Fai indicated that KLJC, which was established in 1998, is a non-profit private school set up by Macao Federation of Trade Unions. The school has a sophisticated teaching environment, teaching workshops with comprehensive facilities, as well as professional teachers. In over 10 years of operation, the school has made its contribution to the cultivation of local youths. Last year, the school opened night courses in order to provide more opportunities for the working young people who have an intention to learn.

KLJC intends to strengthen cooperation with Macao enterprises in order to develop Macao’s vocational and technical education and play a role as a “vocational talents training base”. The agreement signed today by KLJC and CEM will offer a three-year vocational senior secondary evening school program commenced in 2011/2012 academic year for training local young people with specific technical skills and competencies. Fong Ka Fai appreciated CEM for their active involvement, full assistance and cooperation, and believed that under the support from the government and the Macau society , this training course would be held successfully and a contribution to the society. CEM Executive Director Jorge Vieira showed his greatest gratitude to KLJC and Macao Federation of Trade Unions for their support to this program. As a major public service provider in Macao, CEM has been attaching great importance to staff training, in order to help them deliver outstanding work performances. Maintaining a stable work team, especially for technical professionals like electrical and mechanical operators that have a supporting role in MSAR’s sustainable growth. Therefore, CEM needs to hire more young technical professionals in the future, providing adequate orientation training in order to have them to work with the company and help support the development of Macao.

Through the partnership with Macao’s education institutions, on one hand, CEM could foster technical operators for itself; on the other hand, it is also CEM’s corporate social responsibility to support local education institutions and make contributions to Macao’s society. Jorge Vieira believed that, through the mutual cooperation, it will certainly develop more young people in Macao that can work for this industry. Indeed, as long as these young people recognize their own interest and target and be willing to spend time studying and practicing, CEM would like to welcome them to join the company in the future.

In addition, Jorge Vieira expressed his most sincere thanks to Education and Youth Affairs Bureau for its support to the program, the executives of the relevant departments of CEM for sending engineers to work as teachers as well as the staff for helping students to complete the training successfully in the future.

Electrical Power System Technical Operator Course is a three-year MSAR Government recognized vocational senior secondary evening school program, which aims at fostering local young people to become electrical power system technical operators with the specific professional technical skills and competencies.. In the third year of the course program, CEM will provide internship opportunities to the students, enabling them to apply their techniques in work, acquire experience from work, experience corporate culture, and strengthen their confidence to work in the related industry. Students who finish the course with good performances can enjoy priority recruitment in CEM after completing the course.
