In view of the increasing demand for power supply due to the rapid growth of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, China Southern Power Grid Corporation Limited (CSG) in 2011 proposed that three major power companies, namely CSG, CLP Power and CEM, take turns to hold the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Power Industry Summit each year in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau respectively, in an effort to coordinate and plan for the long-term development of power supply in the three regions.
China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN) has been invited to join the summit since 2012. The summit provides a platform for the top executives from the four companies to enhance communications and cooperation among the regions through regular meetings and exchange of views.
To prepare for the upcoming Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Power Industry Summit, the tripartite representatives gathered at Guangzhou to hold a preparatory meeting. Attendees included China Southern Power Grid, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Dept., Wang Lin, Unit Head Zhao Ting Ting, Chief Representative of Guangzhou Representative Office Qu Man, Director of the Public Relations Agency of CGN, Huang Qiang and Deputy Director of CGN, Zhu Hong Yong, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee Iun Iok Meng, CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office Senior Manager Cecilia Nip and Assistant Manager Sarah Chan. Representatives from the three regions agreed that the 5th summit will be held in Macau in June. Leaders from the four companies will discuss and exchange experience based on the theme “Safe New Energy, Promote the Development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau”.
Iun Iok Meng said that Macau has seen rapid economic development in recent years and CEM has established sound cooperative relationship with China Southern Power Grid and Guangdong Power Grid Corporation for more than 30 years. The challenges that the power sector will face in the future is how to resolve the increasing demand for electricity to provide safe and reliable power supply and make efforts in exploring and exploiting new energy so as to make a contribution to the development of the clean energy in Macau.
