CEM provides rewiring of electrical installation to twenty elderly citizens and under-privileged families

Macau, 6 November 2013

CEM has been playing an active role in carrying out its social responsibility. Every year, with the voluntary collaboration of its Ambassadors, the Company organizes and participates in various community services, e.g. visiting community centers, employing citizens with intellectual disabilities, organizing educational events for the youth, recognizing the merit of our most outstanding senior citizens, and many other activities.

CEM pioneered to launch the Community Program in 2000, aiming at providing safety checks and free repairing of household electrical installations for seniors, citizens with special needs, and under-privileged families under government social welfare. Services are provided free of charge by voluntary electricians and engineers. Hundreds of citizens have had their electrical installations enhanced free of charge since then, twenty of the cases were conducted this year.

The Programme has been highly praised by the community. Long-term cooperation is built with major local social solidarity institutions, namely the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), Caritas Macao, Women’s General Association of Macao, Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Macau Special Olympics and Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Services.

On 1 November, a team of CEM staff completed two more cases referred by Caritas Macau. Two under-privileged families had their shabby electrical installation upgraded, and now they are living in a safer environment.

One of the beneficiaries Ms. Kuan, 55 years old said that “I was very happy CEM is offering this Program. Since my husband passed away, our financial condition has been worsened. We can’t afford to do the maintenance of our electrical installation. CEM’s crew is very professional. They first came to our house to do a safety check, and then they came again to restore our electrical installation. They were very friendly and courteous to us. Thank you! I hope CEM will continue to offer this service to help more people.”

Reassured by Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee, during his visit to Ms. Kuan, CEM will continue this project in the hope to assist more citizens in need and contribute to improve their living conditions.
