CEM pays a short visit to the first 220kV substation in Hengqin

26 July 2011, Macao

To prepare for the 28th anniversary celebration for the Zhuhai-Macao interconnection and to fathom the progress of the second 220kV interconnection to Guangdong Power Grid Corporation (GPG), four members from CEM, including CEM Chief Executive Officer Franklin Willemyns, CEM Communications and Public Affairs Senior Manager Iun Iok Meng, Manager Cecilia Nip and Assistant Manager Jaclyn Iun paid a short visit to Hengqin Qinyun substation. They visited the construction site and attended a meeting with GPG Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Secretary of Commission for Discipline Inspection Wen Maohua, Assistant Chief Engineer and Program Construct Department Qi Jun, and more.

Hengqin’s first 220kV substation is listed as one of the Top 10 projects in Zhuhai. Covering an area of over 10,000 square meters, the substation costs over RMB300 million to be built. It is located at the southern side of Huandao North Road and the Stone Park marks its eastern boundary. GPG is speeding up the construction and expects the Qinyun substation to be operational by the end of this year. By then, the substation will be the main power provider in Hengqin New Area, supplying power for future big projects, industries, and the mounting demand from Macao for medium to long term.

GPG will build three 220kV cables connecting Qinyun substation and Macao’s Lotus substation in the coming five years. GPG will then be able to supply power to Macao via these cables. In order to tie in with the new connecting point, the construction of Macao’s new 220kV Lotus substation at a granted land near the Macao Dome has also begun. It is expected that the establishment of the new substation will play a positive and stabilizing role in the medium-to-long term power consumption growth in Macao.
