To enhance its young engineers’ professional knowledge about power system and prepare them for future challenges and opportunities, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) has partnered with the University of Macau (UM) to organize a 12-session “CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course” since 2010. Total three terms has been completed with over 60 CEM’s young engineers participated. Electrical engineering experts and professors from Macau, Hong Kong and the mainland are invited as instructors.
On 21 March, the graduation ceremony of “2013-2014 CEM Electric Power Engineering Training Course” was held at UM. Officiating Guests included Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Research), Billy Chan, Senior Manager of CEM Network Operations and Maintenance Department, Prof. Tam Kam Weng, Head of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Prof. Leung Shing On, Director of Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), University of Macau.
Prof. Rui congratulated the graduated students, and thanked CEM’s support to CCE and UM. As an important provider of an essential service for the economic development of Macau and citizens’ livelihood, CEM’s engineers are the keys to provide quality service. He believed that upon the completion of the training, the students can effectively put what they have learnt into practice at work and enhance the service quality. He expected UM will continue to receive training needs and advices from CEM and the community in the near future. UM will strive to nurture high-quality professionals for the society and contribute to the development of Macau.
Billy Chan indicated that as part of CEM’s systematic and structural training scheme, the training course had jointly organized by CEM and UM for the third time since 2010. This proved CEM’s proactive attitude in supporting the long-term development of local higher education and devotion in cultivating young engineers. To better organize the training course, UM professors and CEM Human Resources Department made a careful study and review on last year’s curriculum and made improvements in the training contents, teaching methods, testing and evaluation means, enabling the course setup and teaching methods to be more practical and closer to the actual power system engineering operations. He also expressed his appreciation to UM, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and CCE for their continuous trust and support as well as congratulation to the graduated students.
