Macao, 6 October 2011
CEM is going to organize the 10th edition of Energy Fun Fair on 9 October, 2011 at Tap Seac Square in Macao. With the theme “Save the Earth, save energy!”, thirteen local secondary schools will take part of the event, and thousands of citizens are expected at the venue.
Organized for the first time in 2001, Energy Fun Fair became a popular annual event in the community. With this initiative CEM aims to enhance the interest and the knowledge of the general public, and the youngsters in particular, about the electricity phenomenon, and more deeply about energy savings and environmental protection, so that citizens will gain conscious on the importance of conserving our resources, and ultimately help to protect our Planet. The event has been a success! In the past 10 years, around 35 schools participated in the event, with more than one thousand students and teachers involved in its preparations.
This year thirteen local secondary schools will participate, namely Escola Secundária Tong Nam, Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai, Millennium Secondary School, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima, Sacred Heart Canossian College, Escola Keang Peng Secção Secundária, The Workers’ Children High School, Escola Secundária Pui Ching, Escola Nossa Senhora de Fátima, Pooi To Middle School, Macau Anglican College, Escola Secundária Kao Yip, and Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes.
Students will compete among themselves for the Best Booth, exhibiting school projects related to the theme, and the projects will be displayed on the day of the event, for the public’s learning and interaction. At the same time, students will also show their abilities and creativity by joining a Talents Contest, by means of singing, dancing or drama performance.
Top three schools in each of the competitions will be awarded with cash prizes. Plus, the school with the highest mark in the combination of the two competitions will receive a laptop. A selected panel of professional judges has been invited to evaluate the performance of the different schools during the competitions. Visitors participating in the event will also have the chance to vote for their favorite school, and be entitled to win an iPad 2 in a lucky draw that will be held during the closing ceremony.
This year, and for the first time, the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) will have one booth for themselves. Members of MSO have been preparing an energy related project, and they will have this great opportunity to share their work and capabilities with the public. Children and teenagers up to 16 years old will have the possibility to enter into an extra entertaining program by joining a Drawing Contest. They will be able to demonstrate their skills and creativity by making a draw showing what they like the most about the Fair.
To show CEM’s commitment to the worldwide green initiatives and in particular the Macao Government’s green policies, CEM will have its Electric Vehicle (EV) and Electric Bike for display. The public not only can see them, but will also be given the chance to have a closer touch. There are only three EV in Macao. Despite that, CEM has recently inaugurated the second public EV charging station in Macao, giving its contribution for the development and future use of these environmental friendly vehicles in Macao.
Two energy-savings related games have also specially been prepared by CEM, so that visitors will have the opportunity to learn more how at home or at their workplaces can they conserve more energy, reduce their electricity bills, and at the same time helping to protect the environment, and making Macao a better place to live.
The public at large, especially families with young children, are invited to participate in the event to spend an educational yet joyful family day, with chances to play games, watch fantastic performances and win many amazing prizes.
