CEM’s sound environmental practices were recently recognized by the HP Eco Solutions Printing Award North Asia 2011. Total eight organizations in Hong Kong and Macao were given the “Award of Excellence” in recognition of their efforts towards building a robust environmental strategy and approach for their printing and imaging environments. CEM is the only organization in Macao honored with this award.
Besides CEM, other organizations include Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hospital Authority HKSAR, Mindshare Hong Kong Limited, MTR Corporation Limited, Nestle Hong Kong Limited, Swiss Reinsurance Company Limited and The Walt Disney Company (Asia Pacific) Limited. These organizations underwent onsite qualitative and quantitative assessments conducted by the HP assessment team using the HP Eco Printing Assessment tool which helps organizations quantify the financial and environmental benefits of going “green”.
Since last year, CEM is working on a consolidation and outsourcing program for logistic devices management, including printer, copier, fax and scanner. The objective of the project is to standardize and reduce the number of equipment to facilitate a better management and to lower power consumption. By using centralized management software, the printing behavior can be better regulated. The administrative process such as maintenance, toner replenishment will be largely simplified. The wasted cartridges are recycled through HP Planet Partners program. In addition to cost saving and better resource efficiency, all these measures lead to a major result, the company is becoming more environmental friendly. This consolidation program has been successfully deployed to a number of departments during the first phase launch. Towards the end of the year, the program will be extended to the whole company during the second phase implementation.
“We are pleased to receive this award, which recognizes CEM’s effort in environmental protection.” said Joao Travassos, CEM Executive Director. “As a responsible company, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and also creating a greener office environment, and we hope that the award will inspire more companies to follow suit.”
