CEM holds award presentation ceremony to recognize outstanding contractors and suppliers

The “2017/2018 CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards” Program organized by CEM has wrapped up. The Award Presentation Ceremony of the Program was held today at the hall on the 4th Floor of Macau Tower, in order to recognize contractors and suppliers with outstanding performance in terms of work safety and environmental protection. CEM set up “CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards” Program in 2008, making it the first Macau company that grants awards in the SHEQ category. This year marks the 7th edition of the awards and total 57 institutions were commended. The professional judging panel selected seven excellent companies to receive nine awards this year.

Officiating guests attending the ceremony included: Lam Iok Cheong, Head of Department of Occupational Safety & Health of Labour Affairs Bureau; Un In Lin, Head of Division of Environmental Publicity and Education of Environmental Protection Bureau; Tin Kit Peng, Interim Director of Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs of the University of Macau; Kou Chi Leong, Chairman of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association; Vong Kok Seng and Lei Chi Fong, President and Vice President of CEM Customer Liaison Committee; Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor to CEM Executive Committee; Iun Iok Meng, Advisor to CEM Executive Committee and Keegan Cheang, Director of CEM Human Resources and Sustainability Department.

In his speech, Benjamin Yue expressed gratitude to guests of their presences and members of the judging panel representing different organizations for their efforts in selecting these outstanding enterprises. Benjamin Yue said CEM has long prioritized safety, health and environmental protection in workplace, and has consistently required employees, contractors and suppliers to follow relevant Integrated Management System at work. Moreover, CEM regularly organizes trainings on occupational safety and health to ensure CEM’s operation meets international standards. The “CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards” aims to encourage contractors and suppliers to enhance the level in SHEQ area, thereby further improving the working conditions and creating a good workplace. The Program benefits not only CEM, but also employers and employees of different institutions, as well as the community to achieve a win-win situation for all parties. Benjamin Yue expressed the hope that contractors and suppliers can continue working closely with CEM to create safer, healthier and quality workplace in Macau, thereby contributing to sustainable social and economic development of Macau.

A jury comprised of professionals was formed to make the final judgment on all categories of the “CEM Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Awards”. Representatives of the judges include Chui Ka Shing, Senior Technician of Occupational Safety & Health Department of Labour Affairs Bureau; Wong Kai Man, Senior Technician of Environmental Publicity, Education and Cooperation Department of Environmental Protection Bureau; Tin Kit Peng, Interim Director of Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs of the University of Macau; Kou Chi Leong, Chairman of Macau Occupational Health and Safety Association and Keegan Cheang, Director of CEM Human Resources and Sustainability Department. At the award presentation ceremony, Danny Woo and Peter Leong, Project Manager and Vice Manager of Modern Concrete Drill Cut (Macau) Co., Ltd, which won the Quality Excellence Award, introduced “Project & Attitude” and shared one of the company’s founding policies is to promote environmental protection in the demolition industry. The company has always put safety first in all the projects. Moreover, the company has established systems and taken actions to help employees act in the right way and adopt the right mindset. By doing this, the company has improved employees’ work safety awareness and practices, as well as reinforced its commitment to corporate social responsibility.
