(CEM), in collaboration with the Macau Special Olympics (MSO), held the "Bowling Fun Day 2016" at the Future Bright Amusement Park on 18 June. 20 CEM’s employees and their family members joined as volunteers and referees. More than a dozen of them teamed up with the MSO members for the mixed bowling competition. After several rounds of keen competition, Ng Chio Weng and Ng Chi Man won the championship.
MSO National Director Hetzer Siu mentioned that bowling has always been a popular participatory sport among the parents and athletes from MSO. This sport activity is especially suitable for persons with different levels of intellectual disabilities. This event aimed at actualizing their full potentials and helping them to be more courageous to express themselves. During their participation, they can share joy with athletes, learn bowling skills from each other as well as facilitate friendship. In the meanwhile, it can also promote mutual understanding and acceptance between CEM’s employees and their family members as well as people with intellectual disabilities, in a bid to build an inclusive and equal society.
CEM Communications and Public Affairs Office Senior Manager Cecilia Nip said that CEM has always been committed to executing its corporate social responsibilities by organizing various charity and public welfare activities and helping vulnerable groups. CEM has been collaborating with MSO for almost 20 years, including CEM Brightening Stars Internship Program, Energy Fun Fair, Macau sightseeing by electric vehicles, MSO Car Beauty Competition, CEM Cup Badminton and Bowling Competitions, etc. Furthermore, CEM has recruited the MSO trainees for vehicle cleaning service since 2002. Through assorted programs, CEM hopes to further enhance the understanding and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities amongst members of the public, assist them to actualize their full potentials as well as boost their self-confidence so that they can better integrate into society in the future.
