In order to promote awareness of safety and help CEM contractors to be more conscious about occupational safety and health, CEM organized the “Safety Training for Contractors” at Plaza Restaurant on 29 October, attracting around 100 employees from CEM’s contractors to attend. CEM has been the organizer of the “Safety Training for Contractors” since 2014. Speakers from the Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM shared with the audiences their professional knowledge and experiences. The event was well received by the industry.
River Leng, Primary Substation Construction Senior Manager of CEM Transmission and Distribution Department, said in the welcoming speech that CEM has always attached great importance to the occupational health of workers and safety of work environment. It is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees and contractors’ staff. Besides to carrying out health and safety policies in accordance with international standard of management, the Company also systematically introduces safety measures into every aspect of its business operation and arranges regular training sessions of occupational health and safety for employees and contractors in a bid to promote CEM's safety culture. Going forward, CEM will continue eliminating potential risks and minimizing hazards that may threaten the health and safety of employees, contractors and the public. It will also continue maintaining and advancing an effective occupational health and safety system. Besides, it will regularly review its operations and safety management system and spread the message of occupational health and safety through various activities.
The main speakers included Chui Ka Shing, Senior Technician of the Labour Affairs Bureau, and Kou Sio Wai, Safety Engineer of CEM’s Human Resources and Sustainability Department. In the session about “safety measures for work at height”, Chui introduced the occupational safety and health regulations, hazards as well as safety measures and cautions for work at height. In the session about “accidents relating to contractors”, Kou shared related accidents with contractors of CEM and how they should follow up on accidents. All the participating employees of contractors had positive feedback on the course, saying that it was informative and useful.
Every year, CEM organizes different trainings targeting at employees and the industry with an aim of driving the development of occupational safety and health in Macau. CEM set up “Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Excellence Awards” in 2008 to acknowledge the efforts of contractors and suppliers in promoting environmental protection and health and safety at work, becoming the first company in Macau to initiate the awards. In the future, CEM will join hands with the industry to actively promote occupational safety and health in Macau through various activities so as to achieve the goal of making Macau accident-free.
