To recognize the contributions made by the elderly to the society and family as well as encourage them to make good use of their leisure time to actively participate in community service, CEM has been organizing the Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award since 2012, in hopes that the activity can arouse the society’s concern for the elderly while motivate the elderly to live happily.
The event is co-organized by Macau Federation of Trade Unions, General Residents Association of Macau, Women’s General Association of Macau, Caritas Macau, Macau Special Olympics and Fuhong Society of Macau. The Macau Outstanding Senior Citizens Award accepts nominations from now on until 15 August. Candidates should be permanent Macau residents aged 65-years-old or above, and should be recommended or nominated by the co-organizer, local association or individual nominator.
Candidates, whether female or male, may come from various sectors in the community. Ten winners will be selected by a judging panel that consists of social celebrities and representatives engaged in elderly affairs in a fair and impartial manner. The award presentation ceremony will be held at the end of this year, and each of the winners will be given a trophy and a cash prize of MOP 5,000. Furthermore, the finalists will also be invited to attend the award presentation ceremony and be entitled to receive mementos.
Members of the judging panel include Chief of the Senior Citizen Services Department under the Social Welfare Bureau Lo Sok Ha, Vice President of the Chinese Educators Association of Macao Lei Pui Lam, Director of Seniors Academy of Macau Polytechnic Institute Lam Wan Mei, Chairman of Macau Elder Sports Association Sin Chi Yeung, and Advisor to CEM Executive Committee Iun Iok Meng.
