Electrical Safety

Establishing proper electrical habits is the first line of defense in protecting lives and property, whether in a cozy home, an efficient commercial space, or during electric vehicle travel toward a sustainable future. CEM spares no effort in promoting electrical safety across all sectors of the Macao community through diverse channels, working together to build a safe electrical environment.

Community Inspections

CEM actively supports the Macao SAR Government’s policies and works with multiple government departments to conduct safety inspections and awareness campaigns in communities:

Structural and Electrical Safety in Older Neighborhoods: In collaboration with the Land and Urban Construction Bureau and the Environmental Protection Bureau, CEM visited the “Iao Hon Estate” to conduct a focused inspection of the buildings’ structural integrity and electrical systems, with the aim of identifying and assessing risks at an early stage.
Cross-departmental Inspections of Historic Districts: In collaboration with the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Fire Services Bureau, a joint team was formed to conduct targeted inspections of heritage buildings and street-front shops along Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro in the Central District, comprehensively assessing fire safety, structural integrity, and electrical safety conditions.
Electrical Safety in hawker zones: In collaboration with the Municipal Affairs Bureau, CEM inspected hawker stalls across various districts to identify potential electrical hazards and educate the hawkers and stall vendors on safe electrical practices.

Safety Upgrade Subsidy Program for Communal Electrical Installations in Aging Buildings

Due to the lack of regular and proper maintenance and upgrades over a long period, many communal electrical installations in Macao’s buildings pose potential safety risks to residents. In view of this, CEM shareholders launched the first phase of the “Safety Upgrade Subsidy Program” between 2020 and 2023. This initiative not only effectively eliminated immediate electrical hazards in the relevant buildings but also raised public awareness of electrical safety.
To further assist residents in building a safety barrier, CEM shareholders contribute MOP30 million again in 2026 to subsidize the safety upgrade of communal electrical installations in old buildings after consultation with the Macao SAR Government. CEM will supervise the technical aspects and appoint contractors to carry out the upgrade works.

CEM has also partnered with local associations to hold seminars specifically for residents in low-lying areas. At these seminars, CEM engineers provided the association members with detailed explanations of safety hazards in relevant buildings and introduced the details of the new round of the subsidy program, encouraging residents to actively participate in building a safe community. As of 13 August, 36 buildings had obtained consent forms from more than half of their owners; of these, two buildings have completed the upgrades, while construction is underway at four others, continuing to advance electrical safety upgrades in the area.

Community Services

CEM cooperated with the Housing Bureau to provide free inspection of household electrical installations for the elderly living in social housing units, while promoting electrical safety knowledge to raise public awareness of the importance of regularly inspecting and maintaining electrical equipment in their homes.

Thematic Seminars

Since 2025, CEM has partnered with the Fire Services Bureau and various local associations to host a series of electrical safety seminars, reaching a cumulative total of over 2,400 participants. The sessions have targeted members of local associations, staff from property management companies and non-resident workers, covering topics such as household electrical safety, precautions regarding communal electrical installations in buildings, causes of malfunctions and preventive measures, as well as fire safety knowledge.

Promotional Activities

CEM reaches a wide range of residents across different age groups through advertisements on bus TV, radio, and in newspapers, food delivery apps, as well as short video activities with prize draws. The company also posts various electrical safety messages on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WeChat. CEM publishes four issues of its quarterly newsletter “LINK” throughout the year, which also features special sections on electrical safety. During seminars or inspections, CEM distributes posters, leaflets or promotional souvenirs printed with electrical safety information, effectively integrating electrical safety concepts into the daily lives of residents.

In addition, CEM promotes electrical safety knowledge to the public through various events, such as the “Energizing Tour,” electric cooking classes, and participation in events such as the “Nam Kwong Youth Community Service Day” and “Caritas Charity Bazaar.”
