Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians

Background

CEM is actively promoting the implementation of a new specification to be effective in 2025, requiring all electrical technicians who involve in CEM power supply engineering works to complete the “Skills Assessment Program”, with an aim to constantly upgrade their technical knowhow and motivating the industry. Electrical technicians must fulfill the requirement through one of the following modes of training before applying to CEM to become a ‘CEM Registered Electrical Technician’.

CEM

The assessment is divided into two parts: “Knowledge” and “Skills”, which comprehensively evaluate the participant’s knowledge of occupational safety and applications of skills. Participants who pass the assessment will be awarded a certificate issued by CEM.Possess a minimum of 5 years work experience related to electrical engineering works

Certification Course for Electrical Technicians

Macau Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM

Assist electrical technicians to obtain certification through theoretical and practical trainings. Participants who pass both examinations will receive a certificate accredited by Macau Labour Affairs Bureau and CEM.

Possess a minimum of 3 years work experience related to electrical engineering works

As of present, 213 participants have completed the “Certification Course for Electrical Technicians” or passed the “Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians”, while the existing registration scheme for “CEM Registered Electrical Technicians” will also be optimized in accordance with the new standards.

 

CEM is going to organize “Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians” again in February 2024. Industry practitioners are welcome to join the skills assessment, please refer to the details below.

ObjectiveWith the aims of enhancing the professional knowledge, skill and competency level of the electrical technicians, the assessment can promote skill standardization and nurture talents for the power industry.
Assessment MethodThe assessment is divided into two parts, “Knowledge” and “Skills”, which comprehensively evaluate the candidate’s knowledge of occupational safety and applications of skills. Candidates who passed the assessment will be awarded a certificate.
Assessment Content:

Knowledge (written exam, 1.5 hours)

  • Knowledge of basic electricity, technical specifications and theory of low-voltage power supply, uninterruptible power supply and knowledge of occupational safety and health, and so forth.

Skills (actual operation, 3 hours)

  • Practical skills in cables, protective devices/conductors and circuit arrangements, low-voltage equipment, lighting installation and testing, application of meter and occupational safety, and so forth.
Target ParticipantsPossess a minimum of 5 years work experience related to electrical engineering works.

Successfully admitted participants will receive SMS notification before 9 February 2024 (Friday) and the assessment is expected to hold after mid of February until March (For details of schedule, please refer to the enrolment form).

Terms and Conditions
  1. “Technical Skills Assessment for Electrical Technicians” will be conducted in Cantonese with Chinese materials;
  2. Registrant must provide a local contact number for communication purpose;
  3. Registrant must briefly state your job function on the registration form. If the number of registration exceeds the maximum class size, candidates will be selected based on his/her job nature. Once the registration is confirmed, the quota cannot be changed or transferred to others;
  4. Before the assessment, CEM will organize a briefing session for candidates. Participants are required to present Identity Card for verification on the day;
  5. For details about the “Certification Course for Electrical Technicians”, please refer to the website of Macau Labour Affairs Bureau;
  6. CEM has the right to make necessary amendments and additional interpretation without further notice.
