Sustainability is embedded in CEM’s corporate governance and daily operations. While ensuring a safe, reliable and high-quality electricity supply for Macao, we actively address environmental, climate and social challenges through responsible business practices. Guided by a robust ESG framework, we work closely with our stakeholders to drive innovation, support the low-carbon transition and create long-term value for the community.
Governance
Good governance is the foundation of CEM’s sustainable development. We have established a structured ESG governance framework that integrates environmental, social and governance considerations into corporate strategy, risk management and day-to-day decision-making. Through clear governance responsibilities, effective oversight and continuous stakeholder engagement, we enhance transparency, accountability and the long-term resilience of the Company.
To further strengthen our sustainability management, CEM completed its Double Materiality Assessment, identifying the ESG topics that are most significant to our business and stakeholders. The results now guide our sustainability priorities and future development.
Climate
Climate change presents both challenges and opportunities for the energy sector. CEM integrates climate-related risks and opportunities into corporate governance, risk management and business planning to strengthen the resilience of the power system and support Macao’s low-carbon transition.
We continue to invest in smart grid development, transmission and distribution upgrades, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. At the same time, we are advancing decarbonisation through cleaner energy solutions, Green Electricity Certificates (GECs) and energy efficiency initiatives for both our operations and customers.
Environment
CEM is committed to minimising the environmental impacts of its operations while supporting Macao’s transition towards a cleaner and more resource-efficient future. We continuously improve environmental performance through energy efficiency, emissions management, responsible waste handling and efficient use of natural resources.
Our initiatives include enhancing generation efficiency, promoting green procurement and recycling programmes, and operating a floating solar photovoltaic system at Coloane Power Station. These efforts contribute to reducing our environmental footprint while supporting sustainable development in Macao.
Social
People are at the heart of CEM’s sustainability journey. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace, supporting employee development, delivering reliable customer services and creating long-term value for the Macao community.
CEM invests in employee training, occupational health and safety, and customer service innovation while maintaining close partnerships with government, educational institutions and community organisations. Through long-standing initiatives such as the Macao Energy Saving Activity and electricity safety education programmes, we continue to promote energy conservation, electrical safety and environmental awareness across the community.
