Generation

The actual capacity of CEM’s generation consists of two power stations located on the Coloane Island namely Coloane Power Station A (CCA) and Coloane Power Station B (CCB), which are with 271.4MW and 136.4 MW of installed capacity respectively. In addition, CEM has been in talks with the Macau SAR Government to install the second combined cycle gas turbine (CC2) unit in Coloane Power Station. This environmentally friendly and efficient gas turbine unit will be able to enhance the local generation capacity, optimize the local energy source mix, improve the security of electricity supply, and also reduce greenhouse gas emission.

The type of generation technology deployed are the low speed diesel generator (CCA) and the combined cycle gas turbine (CCB). These two types of generating units make up of 66.5% and 33.5% of total capacity installed and accounted 99.4% and 0.6% of total electricity generation in 2016 respectively.

In 2016, the gross energy demand was 5,255 GWh, of which 787 GWh was produced by CEM and 4,467 GWh has acquired from external suppliers. The energy breakdowns between CEM generation and energy acquisition were 15% and 85% respectively. The annual growth rate was 5.8%. The peak demand and daily load demand were 19.1 GWh and 932 MW respectively.
