2000 – Now
In the last few years, CEM began to implement a strategy of
change, which has allowed the company to confront future challenges
and which will enable the company to be seen as a
model company amongst other energy suppliers
in Asia, deploying the implementation of its Culture of Efficiency
project which has the objective of creating a culture based
on the definition of customers’ usage and of remuneration
to employees according to their performance. The definition
of a new image of CEM is symbolized by its logo, which marks
the determination of the company in reinforcing its relationship
with its universe of work – customers, community and
employees. The creation of the SHEQ Office focuses on the
coordination of activities of the company in the areas of
Safety, Health, Environment and Quality. Also enhancing the
integrity of the company is a system of “benchmarking”,
a valuable instrument for the rigorous evaluation of index
of work quality, giving ongoing comparisons of results of
CEM with other companies in the same areas and of similar
dimensions.
In July 2003, China Power International Holding
Limited (CPI) became the newest shareholder of CEM by the acquisition
of 6% of CEM shares. The new partnership with CPI offers to
CEM an access into the electricity market of China and, as well,
the sharing of resources and expertise will strengthen the competitive
advantages of all parties concerned.

Coloane – B Power Station (CCB) |
In order to meet the needs of a progressively
increasing thirst for electricity in the Territory, CEM has
built a second power plant in Coloane - Coloane-B Power Station
(CCB) - which was inaugurated in 2003. At the same time, the
company adapted means and installed equipment to continuously
control emissions of gases and to treat all effluents in the
Liquid Effluents Treatment Plant before they flow out to sea.
The technology of combined cycle using the new CCB is substantially
less polluting than the technology of generators that equipped
the CCA. This represents a very important advance in the field
of environmental protection. The construction of a sludge incinerator
is another realization of technology being used in pursuit of
environmental protection.
The installation of Selective Catalytic Reduction
system in all the Diesel generators of lower voltage installed
in CCA, has been seen as another significant step in reducing
environmental impact. The installation of this system permits
a substantial reduction of nitrogen oxides and particulates
emitted, to levels well below the limits imposed to similar
technologies and combustibles.
Improved and expanded services of the company,
along with environmental development have been the major pillars
of a vision of the company centered on customers. The company
looks for every way to satisfy the needs of its customers and
render excellent service quality, while at the same time being
an active partner in the contribution for the success of the
policies of the MSAR Government.
